I replaced a AK74 style clone brake with a Bulgy zig zag brake on my Saiga.  I replaced the FSB with a Bulgarian FSB with 24mm threads.  Both brakes are 24mm threads.

I never had a problem removing and attaching the clone to clean the gun.

Today, after shooting with the zig zag brake.  I removed it to clean the gun.  It was very difficult to get off.  I had to use a rod through the brake to get enough leverage to remove it.  After cleaning I tried to reinstall the brake.  It would only go on about a third of the way.  The threads look fine.

Any ideas what is going on?

Fouling.

The AK-74 brake fouls badly inside and after a number of rounds can be difficult to unscrew.  Unless you get all the fouling off the threads of the brake and the muzzle, it can be hard to get back on again.
Clean it.  You can use a brass "toothbrush" to scrub the threads of the brake and muzzle or you can buy some carbon cutter to remove the build up.

As an experiment, try screwing the original brake on the rifle.

Coat the treads with some grease before screwing it on.
It will need to be removed, cleaned, and greased after each time you go shooting

Sounds like my plan to permanently pin a 74 brake to a total of 16.25" is a no-go. No way to get at the expansion chamber.
