Hi guys,

I have a WASR with the front sight canted to the left and the rear to the right.  I also have a converted Saiga that's the same.

Since the Saiga sights are pressed on I had to send it in to RAA's gunsmith.  At that time I only knew the front sight was canted.  When I finally got it back the front sight was still canted to the left  My FFL also noticed it was canted before I sent it in.  It seemed as if they didn't touch a thing but billed RAA for the work anyways.  It wasn't untill I got the rifle back that I noticed the rear was canted to the right.  I ended up buying a windage adjustable rear sight to make up for it.

Still, when the sights are off this much it makes accuracy impossible at ranges other than what i'm sighted in for.  Does anyone know a good smith with a press that pays careful attention to issues like this?

The WASR.  My FFL offered to correct this problem for me no charge so I let him have it.  I'm really not set up for this type of issue.  Anywho, he redrilled the pin holes to 1/8" and thought he had everything centered but upon picking it up it looked the same.  Since he redrilled the holes larger is there a fix for this?  Can I carefully file them to the right postition?  Or I was thinking of taking out the pins and using some Loctite Weld in the holes to secure the sights in the right position.  Would the barrel heat melt this stuff?  How hot does the barrel get?

If someone could recommend a good smith to resolve this problem I would greatly appreciate it.

Thanks for your time.  Sorry if some of it doesn't make any sense, my oldest doesn't have school today and both of my children are rocking out right next to me trying to get me to watch their every move

You can try tapered pins on the WASR. You may be able to move the sight bases enough to straighten them and still get the pins in.
I expect it will work with the rsb, since that can't be far off. Whether it works with the fsb depends on how far you need to move it.

Great idea, thanks.  You don't think the Loctite WELD will work?  I would think it would work on the front but not the rear due to all the barrel heat.

I get frustrated with canted sights on AKs as well, it seems like they are all of a little. I guess you have to almost expect it unless its a higher end rifle

I don't have any experience with that product so IDK if it will work.

Unless you pay someone to custom build a rifle you may get canted sights. "High end" production rifles sometimes have canted sights.
The AK is an infantry rifle designed to arm a mass army as inexpensively as possible. The arsenals build to a simple standard: If you can zero the rifle the sights are straight enough. The Soviet Army wasn't concerned about the delicate sensibilities of Pvt. Ivan and his desire to have the front sight post perfectly centered in the ears.

Poly,

Now how do you tap the rear sight base over?  Acquired TGI truckgun and rear sight not level.  It looks like what the sight is attached
to is solid, don't see anything to tap.

Just an option, but Jim Fuller's Rifle Dynamics will fix everything that is needed on any AK, but they do have a package for WASRs.  I believe it works that there is a max price, that includes parkerising and moly resin refinishing, but you can opt out of that, and they only charge for what they repair (examples are de-horning, mag well/mag wobble, FSB and gas block cant, etc.).  Just making sure you are aware of it.  Might be worth the peace of mind.  Jim is known for doing excellent work and running a good company.

I haven't examined one of those but AKM rear sight bases are pinned to the barrel by  a single pin (which is covered by the lower handguard). The pin must be removed before the base is moved.
Before you do that, make sure of two things:
1. Is the base canted or is the leaf not level? Sometimes the leaf doesn't sit level in the base.
2. How far can you move the base? The base fits between the "ears" on the trunnion so the amount the base can be moved is quite limited. Check the space between the trunnion "ears" and the sight base on both sides with a feeler gauge.

Thanks for the tips Poly.  I will check to see if it is just the leaf that's not level before I try anything else.

Put a rail system and an Aimpoint or Eotech in scout position on it...

Then unless your optic goes down you'll never notice again.
