My AK popped a primer and the primer piece is now wedged in the hole where the firing pin is.  I removed the firing pin retaining pin, but the primer piece is wedged in so tight that the firing pin can't come out.  I'm trying to hit the firing pin, driving it backwards, so the firing pin will come out, but it is really wedged in tight.  Unfortunately, I don't have a vice which is making the task near impossible.

Before I go looking for a gunsmith, which is a challenge in rural southern Illinois, doesn't anyone have any suggestions?

Flat firing pin or round?

If it's flat you can probably twist it to loosen it up while pulling from the back.

Now for the real question: Why did your rifle pierce a primer?

Get a thick block of hard wood.
Drill a hole into it that the rear of the bolt will fit into.
Drill a smaller hole all the way through that will pass the firing pin.

Drop the bolt into the hole, then use a long punch to gently tap the firing pin out the back of the bolt.

Depending on how stuck it is, it may be dinged up.  Be prepared to buy a new firing pin.

Thanks for the replies.  DFariswheel, you had a good idea.  I told my wife and she took it one step further, suggesting I just use the old table, just pull the slats apart.  I did and it worked well.  A few hits with a small inflation needle and the pin and primer dropped right out.  I don't have a vice, but the table worked nicely.
