i'm looking at 2 AKs: both black poly underfolders in 7.62

I've heard about Century Arms quality control issues; and, i've heard some nice things about Vector.

Yugo M70 for $500; Vector for $600.

Is the extra $100 worth it?

The Vector would get my vote.  About a pound lighter and looks like a traditional AK.  The Yugo doesn't balance as well in my hands and I hate the look of the grenade launching mechanism.

Most Century Yugos I've seen have been very reliable, but I still don't care for them.  YMMV, of course.

I have both, my best recommendation for a starter would be to get the Vector.

100% worth the extra money....vector for the most part use polish parts, the people at vector are great and there products are backed by a 5 year warranty....to me there is a huge difference between Vectors and anything stamped with CAI on it....buy the vector and dont look back

Go with the Vector , better fit n finish, customer service & warranty, anytime you buy a Century product it is a roll of the dice, FYI we offer discounts to AR15 members on the Vector line.

But isn't Vector now using USA made non chrome lined barrels on their builds? Correct me if I'm wrong on that.

I agree that Vector's rep is much better than Century's is.

That said, I have built two Polish UFs from kits. They are great shooters.
I have built a number of Yugos too. I love them as well. They're built like tanks!

If you're worried about the build quality, get the Vector.

But both models have much to like about them. It's just your personal preferences in choosing.

yup....right now they are using US non chromlined barrels........the chromlined stuff that came in with parts kits is drying up fast...so what ever is out there is it......and since no more can be brought in they started to use the US barrels......it shouldnt be long before someone comes out with a US made barrel that is chromlined but I can bet its going to cost just as much as a rifle LOL

That's true, but I'd rather have the US made non-chrome barrel than the Yugo surplus non-chrome barrel.

Why?
Button rifled barrels don't last the way hammer forged ones do.
Only a couple of my Yugo kits had sewer pipe barrels. Most were VG to excellent after cleaning. I used the factory Zastava barrels available from CFS to rebarrel them with. Excellent shooters! Century has always used new USA barrels in theirs though.
And Century uses the less expensive USA made button rifled barrels on their Yugos vice a new Yugo made one. That'll still be an advantage over the Vector as it's a heavier barrel. Better heat sink.

The USA button rifled barrels are fine barrels. Supposedly more accurate than the hammer forged ones. But the hammer forged have a longer service life supposedly.
Six of one, half dozen of the other I'd say.

Both will make an excellent rifle.

I don't worry about the lack of chrome lining. I clean after each range trip. No worries. They always clean up just as easily as a chrome lined one.

I just bought a Vector fixed-stock AK-47. It is my first AK purchase. I must say that, especially having just come from a local gun show and seen the competition, that my Vector has to be of the finest craftsmanship. If there are better AKs out there, I couldn't imagine what they would have over the Vector. As you can tell, they have one happy customer

Get the Vector through Atlantic.  Excellent product and service.  I just recently got a Vector from them, and it is flawless.

If you want one of the best quality AK's buy an arsenal. I have two now, one 762x39 and one 223. They are some of the best AK's I have ever seen and fit and finish is flawless ! Always wanted to try a Vector, but could never find any one to that had shot or owned one. I mat see a couple of them in my future. I would stray away from CIA, I have never had nothin but problems with their products.

The Yugo in question, though, was the ones sold by Century, which use NEW US-made non-chrome barrels, not surplus.  I wonder if they're sourced to both Century and Vector by the same company?

I have a Century Yugo and am very happy with it - the Vector was my other choice, too, and while they are VERY nice, I have no regrets about my purchase!
