I am mostly ignorant of a lot of AK information, though I do own one, I am mostly a AR man. A friend asked me this question so I thought I would ask it here. Are there any parts that are interchangable between the AK 47 and the AK 74?

The fire control groups, buttstocks and pistol grips are interchangeable. Maybe some others as well, but that's all that comes to mind right now.

What's not; Bolt, carrier (?), barrel, muzzle devices (depends on if you're going from 47 to 74 or 74 to 47), magazines

muzzle devices, bolts and bolt carriers are not compatible at all.
Mags aren't either.
Trigger guards, selector stops are also compatible.

Just standard AK's everything execpt the barrel, now with the variants you will have less parts egs. the AMD, Valmet or the Krink

Thanks everyone. I have a few bolts and carriers and few other parts for a 47 that I thought he could use to get started on his AK74 project...but it looks like everything that I have will not work for him. Thanks.

Selector stops are NOT compatible. Differant height selector stop for differant type of magazine.
