Well I bought a Sar-1 about a week ago, put it in my safe and just took it out to get it ready for a shoot tomorrow and noticed it has multiple spots of rust on it. It didn't have any when I put it in there a week ago. Its really humid here in NY and noticed other things also got rusted in there (non-firearm.) All my other firearms including my Norinco 56S are fine except the Sar-1. Are they just prone to rusting? Anyone else have this problem?
If it is really humid do you have dessicant bags in your safe and do you dry them out in the oven every so often? How about a GoldenRod dehumidifier in the safe? Any rifle will rust if it is humid, if you don't clean and oil it. I've had rust on my Norinco and my SAR-1 but it usually wipes of and is usually around the gas block. Or it could be cosmoline seeping out.
A big +1 on the Dessicant or dehumidifyer Mak suggested. I might also suggest lubing your firearms with a very thin layer of gun "grease" instead of "oil" after cleaning. Less evaporation and seepage. I remember how bad the East Coast humidity was when I lived in Pittsburgh. Protect your investments man...!!!
