[ARCHIVED THREAD] - Romanian front sight question

This is a weird one. Is it possible to move the front sight to the gas block, or gas tube, right by the handguard? Like the Galil? Or does anyone know if the Galil front sight will fit a Romanian?
I'd like to try a Galil look-alike project to save some money, but can't seem to find this out.
Anyone know?

It's been done, but unless you are making a shorter bbl, why shorten the sight radius?

Or sell the SAR3 for $450ish, get a Saiga for $250ish and start over. They use the Galil mags a lot in the Russian forum for the 5.56 rifle.

Here is my Saiga that I am in the middle of modifying. I am waiting on some new polymer handguards and will mounting the rear sights on the topcover and using a HK G3 triple ring up front. Sorry for the ugly wood..... just trying to give you an idea of what you can do with the Saiga. I still have to pull the FSB and gas block to install the handguard retainer and install the A2-style flash hider.
