In my recent adventures I aquired two new AK's. One SLR-105R and the other Siaga conversion (5.56 w/ Bulgarian Mags) by Red Stick / Jacket. Granted they arnt in a 7.62x39 but thoes are not allowed in CT.  For what I can own  legally, thoes seem the best of both worlds. I dont think the lack of a flash hider is something to cry about, and a bayonet lug is useless for my needs. I never cared for a folding stock on a AK (an AR is a whole other issue). I still have the pistol grip and the HI caps.  Within the confines of CT law I think I did alright.
I think a Bulgy 5.45 is one of the best close to origional AK's that I can get.  Since the Siaga is aready a conversion I do not mind it being a 5.56. From what I gathered the stamped 5.56 Arsenals had some glitches and I think the weight of a milled receiver is a tad heavy. Once I can figure out how to post pictures I will.

Have a good one.

I'm jealous, those are both very nice examples.  Buy up all the 5.45 you can or that Arsenal is going to be a wall hanger.

Why do to say that? Are they going to ban it or something? Sorry I am out of the AK loop.

Rumor is that 5.45 is so cheap b/c a whole lot of it was just imported, but that not much will be left after that.  Very possible, also possibly complete BS.  I wish I'd got an SAR2 when they were $269...

What rumour?  Why is someone always pimping a new ammo shortage rumour?

people are concerned b/c 5.45 is not domestically produced and if it was ever banned few us manufacturers would produce  5.45 w/ the low (compared to 223, 7.62) demand

Yeah, thats part of it too.  Personally, I'd not bet on it getting cheaper.  And being as its a great round, no reason not to stock up!

What 5.45 ammo would you stock up on? As far as corrosive, if I am not mistaken as long as you clean your rifle afterward its okay to shoot.

It may be listed as corrosive, but it's really not that corrosive-  I shot a bunch of it through my Bulg 74 on Easter Sunday- it's been sitting in my basement ever since and I still haven't gotten around to cleaning it.  Just checked it out and it's fine.

Whats better Bulgy 70 or Russian 7N6?
It seems bulk military ammo is the way to go.

Wolf is making and selling it though.

You can get Bulgarian WASP milsurp for 125$ or Wolf for like $10 more.

Now, when the mil surp dries up, I suspect Wolf will shoot up to be roughly where the 7.62 is, but I don't see it going up much higher than that.

Yes. Squirt some Windex down the barrel and swap it out, just like you would a Mosin-Nagant.
