On a 223/5.56 gas system, is it specific to the size of gas piston.  Or, I will word it this way.  I am going to do some crazy project.  I am basically replacing the barrel, and replacing it with a heavy barrel.  I don't want to make a new gas chamber, so, I was basically going to use a PSL gas tube.  This brought up the question of: Is the PSL piston length to long to cycle the bolt/bolt carrier.  On the build, I'm constantly doing stupid shit, and was thinking about building some sort of HB varmit rifle.  The only two problems I am running into is the gas system question, and a front handguard set-up.

ETA: the reason I am going to use a PSL tube, is so I can get the extra length on the HB portion of the barrel.

I don't know about the length of a PSL system, but I have an idea that may help with accuracy for a varmint build. If the gas setup ends up being too long, why not go with a HB out to the gas block and then a tensioned barrel from the gas block to the muzzle?

I am working on a tensioner/flash hider for my AK, but it requires removal of the front sight, or at least relocation to the gas block. But I don't think this would be an issue on a varmint build.
