do they make them for Ak's?

Im looking for a sling that I can accually use.

The "issue sling is to small to sling around my shoulders and have the rifle in a ready position. If I sling the rifle with the current sling I have to put the rifle behind my back and it takes a few seconds to get it back in fornt of me to a useable position.

How is your AK setup? Depending on how the AK is configured, SpecterGear does offer a few different choices. I chose their Universal CQB 3-pt. sling for my SSR-85C-2. The pic does not show the sling mounted, but you can get an idea of how it would transition on their website. (www.spectergear.com/slings.htm). I installed front and rear (QD type)  sling swivels on the left side to accomodate the CQB sling. It works really well.

Take a look at this sling. I think it would go well with the Romy wire stock.
www.spectergear.com/universalsling.htm

This is the setup on my GP WASR-10 with the Romy wire folding stock. A Polish OD web sling. If the AK is slung over the shoulder with the muzzle face down , you can transition fairly quickly to a shooting position.

All in all, it boils down to personal preference. Hope I could help a little bit.

IIRC, somewhere around $20.00-$25.00 depending on whether or not you opt to get it with the Emergency Release Buckle (ERB). When you open up the link for the Universal CQB sling, scroll down to the bottom where you see "Universal CQB 3 Point Tactical Slings, Product Numbers & Prices". Click on the navigation bar.

The GEAR Sector ASP sling has a loop mount made to go around AK/shotgun/solid stocks.

The ASP is a great sling. Comfortable, durable, and the creator is a member here.

Sir, that is excellent!!!

I wish I knew how to sew. <~~~ Never thought I'd say that.

The one thing I don't like about most "tactical" slings is that I think they ride too low. I don't want my knees/legs banging into the weapon when I'm running. If there is some way to pull it up higher, I'd love to know it.

yeah same deal here.. i dont care for how low it rides as a single point.. and i feel "tied" up with a 3 point when im  on the ground( prone) and moving (up ,,down,to cover, shoot kinda shit)

but hey,, for standing up,,moving,, and kneeling its fine,, just that groing from prone,, to feet, etc sucks IMHO.

be nice to have a basic over t he shoulder deal,, but then  its hard to carry " at ready" for long durations.

as to sewing its pretty easy. This project took me 30 minutes total. and 20 of that was figureing out how to thread the webbing. I idnt look at any pics etc just off an idea in my head. The sewing was seconds if that and is sloppy. I'll porlly toss this oneor use it as back up once i get  the thicker webbing and better hardware.

it connects to teh front of the rifle via 550 cord. , 1 fastek, and a dbl slide buckle.

If you are going with a romy folder this is what I use.

The romy slings are a little short so might want to get a longer one.
Here's how it's attached.

On your wood stock you can do the same you would just need to mount a sling swivel up close to the receiver on the stock.

That is also a great idea. Can it be slung in front of you and brought to the ready position with the stock folded out?

Yes sir. You can put your head and either arm through for carry and snap shooting with the stock extended or folded.

Just get a single point sling with an HK (lobster claw) fastner and stick it on the rear sling loop.

You can make a 2 point sling that allows you to carry the rifle at the ready as well.   The trick is to have the sling connect to the rifle on the side or on the top.   You don't use sling swivels to do it, just loop the nylon strap around the rifle and either cinch it up with a ladder bar or using velcro.   The loop around the buttstock should be loose enough to slip to the bottom side of the stock when you shoulder the rifle.   How you do it depends on the stock.   On some guns it's real easy and on others it's best to just use a different kind of sling.   It mostly depends on the shape of the buttstock and I find it works best on hunting rifles with big cheekpieces.

The problem involved is that for the gun to sit right at the ready the sling should attach near the top of the rifle so it doesn't flop over on it's side or upside down.   When you attach the sling that way however it makes it dificult to shoulder the weapon when you carry it at waist level.   Basically the sling is too short and will bind when you try to shoulder it.   The three point sling gets around this by allowing the sling to expand as you shoulder it.   The method I described above gets around it by allowing the sling to pivot around to the underside of the stock when you shoulder it.

When it works I prefer the two point method.
