I had a problem at the range today,,can someone tell me if it is just a magazine issue? The first mag I fired(new AK Rifle) the round would chamber and fire, but subsequent rounds would not. I saw the trigger was hanging back in the rearward position, so if I manually pushed it forward then pulled the trigger it would fire. I finished the mag by manually pushing the trigger forward, then firing the round. Set that magazine aside and tried 3 different full mags with not one issue. So it tells me I have one bad magazine, question is this, can a bad magazine cause the trigger to hand up in the rearward position like this???

Check the clearance around the trigger were it hangs thru the receiver. It might be out of spec or maybe a bur hanging it up. Just one of the things it could be.

AK mags generally have a bit of wobble in the mag well once inserted.  Some of my mags have so much play in the mag well it is scary, but they feed very well.  It is quite possible that you do have a mag that is out of spec.

Having said that, the trigger "sticking" sounds like a separate issue. You may need a new spring, check to see if the trigger spring is broken (they do quite a bit of winding around the FCG so look close).

BTW, I am no expert on the AK but I have put a few kits together.

Good luck and keep us posted.

Upon further inspection I noticed one side of the trigger spring was not attached correctly, it was riding to the inside instead of hooked in the correct position. So I would say this is the answer, why it worked with the 3 other mags is rather puzzeling. BTW, it is my AK 103 from AK USA. I bought it from a collector that had never fired it and he purchased it in 03. Even with the spring in the wrong position it did not feel like pulling the trigger on any AK I have ever fired, very nice and smooth. So I will keep you posted on further testing,,,if I knew how to load pictures on here I would share pics of my new family member..

Update,,I went back to the range and used the same mag that malfunctioned earlier. With the trigger spring attached correctly, it fired flawlessly. I can't get over the trigger and how great it feels, Chris does a trigger job on each one he builds and it shows. the muzzle break works also, helps with the feel of this beauty. Worth every penney, only one complaint, scratches my legs something awful. Wouldn't you sleep with it too???
