| Is it possible to convert an underfolder to a side folder? I tried search function, but nothing showed up? I've got a Century Arms Yugo M70AB2 underfolder. Also, does anyone know if it's possible to get a chrome-lined Yugo barrel? |

In short, no to both. The underfolder has permanent alterations to the reciever shell and rear trunion. You could de-mil the entire rifle and start over but why bother. The original Yugo barrels had no chrome lining and most were corroded or shot out. Yours either has an original yugo barrel or a new US made barrel, neither of which has chrome lining Sell the Yugo and try again. |

Short answers: 1. Not really. 2. No, why? Long answers: 1. It's not really practical to do so. It IS possible, but it would cost more that buying a new rifle altogether. You'd have to cut little inserts to go in the underfolder holes, weld them in, grind them smooth, then get either a regular trunnion or a sidefolder trunnion, drill rivet holes in your receiver, have the trunnion (if it's a sidefolder trunnion) milled down to install in the thicker Yugo receiver, and them rivet the thing together and refinish. Total cost would be $400 or more. If I were you, if you like the Yugo rifle but not the underfolder, I'd look into a Yugo solid stock rifle. Even if you decide you still have to have the sidefolder, the solid stock rifle would make a more practical starting point. 2. Chrome lined barrels are better than non-chrome lined barrels. But the barrel on your Yugo is fine, and it's highly unlikely that you or you children ever come close to shooting it out. Think of the millions of service rifles built without chrome lining that are still going strong. Even if they did exist, replacing it would be cost prohibitive. You'd have to re-mount the FSB, gas block, re-zero the sights, drill a new pin hole and headspace the new barrel. Probably looking at a $200-$300 gunsmith bill in addition to the barrel. A Yugo will not accept a common AKM barrel. In many ways, you're better off with your brand new US made barrel than a abuse chrome lined barrel with 50,000 rounds already down the tube. |
| Thanks for the replies. I was just curious, in case I wanted to change anything on it. I haven't had any problems with the rifle. The quality seem pretty decent. Accuracy is good and it runs like an AK should. I guess I'll just have to buy another that I can play around with. |
