I've been reading for about a month now and haven't posted much at all. I've been reading here, Warrior Talk forum with Gabe Suarez and on Glock talk. So I have decided that I really don't want an AR, I want an AK47. I keep reading about all of the different model etc and then I find out that my brother in law has two Arsenals. One is a synthetic stock that he wants to keep and the other is a thumbhole wooden stocked model that has a milled receiver with no bayonet lug or flash supressor/muzzle break. I want to make him a fair offer but not too fair if you know what I mean. I believe the Arsenals are high quality, but maybe I could live with a Century built Yugo M70 underfolder for $350 from Classic Arms. I know that to make this an underfolder I would have to modify the receiver, but I believe that I can make it a side folder with no modifications and a screwdriver. Maybe some new furniture and away I go. Can someone give me their best guess on what model it is and what would be a good fair price for the gun in good shape. I have not seen it yet, but will be shooting it on Sunday and if things go well exchanging some money so a little timely help from my friends will be appreciated. Thanks, Rick |

Thanks for the response. Again, I know very little about these firearms. I'm basically a competition shooter, I shoot IDPA and USPSA but these are starting to fascinate me. On the parts issue, I thought that you needed a minimum of X amount of American parts, so if you have more than that you would be OK. If I buy an American made furiture set I should be fine, I think???? I'll read the link that you posted. I really could use some help with the pricing issue. I feel it i definately worth more than $500, but still what is the going rate for these things? I don't want to pay $1200 for one either. It's just where inbetween is the sweet spot. I'll take a range of price at this point since you are not looking at the gun in person. Thanks for the help. Rick |

Thanks RS39. I shot the gun today. I found some Wolff locally for $3.33 / box of 20 for the hollow points. They feed and shot perfectly. The same store that had the Wolf has some WASR10 rifles that were very rough indeed. I paid less for this Aresenal SA-93 than they wanted for a very overpriced folding stock version of a WASR10 . I feel very happy to buy this one with two Russian 30 round mags and a sling for $450. The gun was very clean indeed. I didn't even try to see if he would take less. I told him, that I thought that the price was very reasonable. He said that I was family so that is why the reasonable price. I don't think that I will loose any money on this one if I decide to sell it one day. We set up 6 IDPA targets at ranges that went from 25 yard to 75 yards. I shot it on the move on the closer targets and engaged multiple targets in a string. I shoot IDPA and USPSA (IPSC) and had a blast engaging targets with this rifle. I don't think my local range will let me run and shoot, so it is wonderful to own some land and have fun on it. I even have a metal gong set out to 200 yards. It's a 2 foot square piece of 1/2" steel suspended with chain between two metal posts. I was amazed at the dents that the AK put in that steel at that distance with those hollow points. I didn't even try to engage that target at that distance but the brother in law is a long range rifle competitor and shoots the 600 yard stuff with his Garands and ARs. He ripped off about 15 rounds fairly quickly at 200 and hit the plate 6 times. Damn impressive indeed. The gun isn't a minute of angle, but to quote Gabe Suarez, it sure is minute of man and goes bang every time. I see much fun in my future. Thanks again RA39. Rick |
