First-hand:  Was standing on a corner, waiting for a bus when the Honduran police walked by.  They had AK's with TAPCO folding stocks on them.  I was not one to stare, as I was obviously not a local and I didn't want to attract too much attention. Despite this, I did a double-take to make sure I was seeing it correctly.  Couldn't tell the origin of the AK's but the other furniture looked Romanian.  Definitely not Chinese. I wonder how they got hold of the TAPCO's?  Didn't see anything on Tapco's web site touting that the Honduran police use thier stocks.

When I was there (courtesy of Uncle Sam) back in the 80's they carried Para FAL's. In fact I have a pic somewhere of a very young me towering over a couple of Honduran soldiers armed with the latter. It was also the first time I field stripped an FAL.

I was in Panama recently,  Panamanian guards, or whatever you call them, were everywhere,  None of them had AK's,  Kind of strange, they all were all carring very old Browning High Power pistols.  They were the non slotted version, with the WW2 style rear sight, like on the Inglis brownings.  I was not afraid to look and stare at their guns, they did not seem to pay any attention to me.

When I was stationed there in the mid-80's, prior to Noriega being thrown out, the Panamanian Defense Forces (PDF) carried Taiwanese made T-65's. They were kinda sorta like an AR-180 or a Daewoo: a cross between an AK and an M16. They had a piston gas system but looked outwardly like an M16 sans carry handle. If you've seen the Rock River Arms UTE upper with a fixed rear sight and no carry handle, well that's kinda what they looked like. At the time, not being as gun-savvy as I am now, they struck me as cheaply made. I'd LOVE to tear into one nowadays!
