I'm looking for a new toy/Ak and am wondering if anyone has any input on the quality of the FEG produced SA 85M post ban imports?

Thanx for your time

I didnt know FEG imported any complete rifles after the ban but then agian I dont know much about the FEG history. I think I remember something about Armory USA importing some single stack FEG receivers, opening up the mag wells and building them up with the required US parts but not 100% on that.

I just got back into the AK loop, and bought a SA-85M this week.   To be honest, I am an AR-15 kinda guy, but I could not pass up the deal.

I have owned several AKs in the past, including Romainian and Chinese.  The Hungarian FEG is by far the best fit and finish so far.  One thing that makes these more collectable is the fact the entire rifle is Hungarian, there are no US parts added to the rifle.  I was going to change out the stock, but it fits me comfortably so I am leaving it alone.  Plus with the 922r rules it would cost me about $135 to change the stocks to K-VAR and add a G2 trigger.

Here are a few pictures of mine so you can get an idea.

Thats a nice looking rifle; very clean manufacture.  Thats wahat I'm looking for in a mid range AK. I too have had my share of romainian and chinese Ak's, but I was never really happy with either the rough fabrication, fit, or finish. The park or bluing seemed to always be lacking.  I  think one of these might fit the bill.  Thank you very much for posting the pics.  By the way what camera are you using?

Great guns. There were also some 85 kits imported the other year, which build well stateside.

It's just a Sony Cybershot DSC-S90 4.1 Megapixel.  I paid about $300 for it when it came out, but I think they can be had for under $150 now.  Great camera for the money.  The camera takes better pictures than I can, I have no clue when it comes to lighting and exposure speeds.  The camera is still on the factory settings :)

I don't think you can go wrong with this gun if you can find one at a decent price.

$450.00 is a great deal.  I saw a couple at different dealers at Phoenix show listed at $650.00.

Values are all over the place.  Some guys are saying "its just a postban thumbhole" and throwing out sub $600 figures, others are saying "it's all hungarian and top notch quality" and saying $650+.  I have not seen any for sale under $650.00

There are two on gunbroker, one is $750.00, the other is buy it now for $849.
One on Gunsamerica and looks like $650 on that one.

I've got one(SA85).  VG-excellent cond. It is currently in a Polish laminate stockset, GTEC FC group, American PG/follower and baseplate.  I'm including the original Hungarian FC group.  All for $425 plus shipping.  I just don't need or shoot it.  Got it NIB from dealer friend years ago.

They may be on some sites for above $700.00 and I may have seen dealers with them for $650.00 but I would never pay that much for one myself.  You get in that price range and there are too many other rifles I would prefer.  I would snatch one up in the $450.00 range. The deals are out there, you just have to find them and have the cash ready when you do.
