Ok I want to add a AK74S to my collection as I think the Russian side folder is about the best looking (IMO) anyway I have been searching the EE and different mfgs but cant seem to find one.  Who makes a good vesrsion in 5.45x39?  I have 7.62x39 but thats not what I'm looking for. I also plan on getting a 47 but I think there I will look for a Poly Tech Legend under folder.  My oldest son would like one also so there I think just a underfolder Poly would be fine?  BTW these will not be safe queens as its like a show car that is trailered, WHY, Whats the point of owning it???

ORF

I would also check www.gunbroker.com or www.gunsamerica.com

Let us know which one you like... someone here probably has one..

I have the sidefolder from ORF. Construction is OK. But, it shoots great.

I would consider having one built. Get a Bulgie AKS-74 kit from ORF or someone similar, then send it to a good smith. You should check out the EE if you haven't already. My buddy stumbled onto a beautiful Chris Butler built AKS-74 clone last summer, and he ended up snagging it at a great price. Probably the nicest AK I have ever picked up.

I just bought a nice Bulgy AKS-74 off of the EE for a very decent price. It has the black furniture. Haven't had a chance to go plinking yet. Can't wait. Been wanting one ever since I saw Red Dawn.

Here is mine from Delta.  You should buy a kit and have a gunsmith build one for you.

You should consider using NoDak Spud / D.C. Industries' Model NDS-2SF.  I like the company.

I highly recommend Missouri Custom Armament.  They did a Ffffffing great AKS 74 build for me.I got my New Bulgarian AKS74 kit from ORF.

When you order your kit, make sure you also order a grip reinforcement plate.  Some guys will say"who needs a reinforcement plate", blah blah, blah.  Well, on the real deal AKS74s and the SLR 106 for that matter, they have grip reinforcement plates.  It looks correct and it's a stronger build.

If you are thinking about optics you might want to have your builder put one on.  MCA put both the grip plate and the siderail on mine:  they know how to do it the right way.

Have fun.

STOP

i am not going to bag on ORF,.. i have always been very happy with what i have ordered or how there customer service helped make things right. they are a great company and i will do bussiness with them again without hesatation.

now,... the reinforcement plates i got earlier this year where not correct,.they where about 3/8 of a inch to short for the stock PG in the picture above. i did not notice this untill i tacked it onto my AKS-74 reciver,..and it looked like a soup sandwich with the PG on there,... i sent the other three back and got a refund every easily,...

i do not know if they fixed this yet,.. as i make my own now,..but you should know they might not fit.

+1 on the NDS recivers,... i am going to get two,.. one for a AK-105,. and the other for a AKS-74U,... you can also get them with the plate aready installed directly from NDS.

also the 299 sidefolder kit i got from ORF looked like it had a one mag testfired out of it at the factory then put in storage.,.. this was back in April - May,... so your milage may vary.

I got my grip plate from a different source.  Tantals has spec plates. Sounds great that you can get them from NDS.  I have heard that they make a great receiver.  I did get my Bulgarian kit from ORF and it was perfect; however, it was the $399 kit.  I ran a patch through the bore when I got it and it came out clean.

Are you sure the plate you got isn't supposed to be used with a cap-cut pistolgrip?

it is was more like a 1/4 in. too short now that i think about it,.. just enough to piss you off because you could clearly see where the PG was hanging over the plate.

i am not sure what you mean by cap cut pistol grip,.....

i tryed it with every pistol grip i had that i was willing to use on my AKS-74,.. US Plum from K-VAR,. US black plastic from Arsenal,.. Romanian plastic,. a Russian PG,..even the US wood from Ironwood designs w/ ferule

the plans i use call for a plate OAL of 2.87in. the one i got back then was 2.625 - 2.630,.. cant remember exactly. now making my own,..sometimes i need to make the plate slightly larger,.. sometimes i have to shave it down a bit,it just depends on the grip i use,...but it was never off by as much as those where,.. bad batch or something

but the guys at ORF made it right with out pulling teeth,.. so i am happy

Finally someone who makes a ready to go aks 74 reciever. The link says rivet holes not drilled but the pix shows holes. Any idea if they are drilled or not? Also any reviews yet?

Yeah, the ferule PG is also called cap-cut. I had the exact same problem with mine; I bought a plate from them when I bought a receiver. Same thing. I was hoping if I put a ferule capped PG on it that it would look better. Thanks for dashing my hopes.

-1,   I sent one POS back after a two month wait only to have it replaced with a worse one. Reciever front not cut square, Selector rode on top of rivit, firing pin fell out of bolt the first time I cycled action, no spring tension on rear site, literally hinged open when gun was turned upside down, plus many other issues. I see no reason to have to work on a $790.00 rifle when it comes out of the box. I liked the finish... lol. The people there treated me good though, refunded money, etc. They must have zero Q.C. and a bunch of eight year olds building them. I was really disappointed.

Mine too bought with as a part with one of their parts kits. Except that mine was only about 1/8" too short. I had purched a gas piston with the thought of being able to keep the orgional grip, but now I am thinking about putting a US grip on it which are slightly shorter (front to back) than the orgional bulgy. It then will be just barely going to cover. Problem is that I have already tacked it down .

The NDS-2SF (AK-74 sidefolder) receiver has predrilled rivet holes for the front trunion and rear block.
The NDS-1 (AKM) and NDS-2 (AK-74) receivers do not have predrilled rivet holes for either the front trunion or rear block.

Thanks.

last time i looked,... a complete rifle was 699.00,.... i can buy a sidefolding kit,299.00 and a US reciver 50-100 bucks (depending on how much work i want to do) and US FCG,.PG,. and HG for about 75 bucks build it my self for about 430-500 bucks,... get it refinished for about another 70-100 bucks,. and get a rifle cheaper and build exactly the way i want it,the reciver i want,.. the parts i want,.. even the rivets i want,... i control every last little thing that goes into a build... and the only person i can blame for QC is myself.

the one above i built my self,.. there is one loose rivet,. and the square slot for the buttstock hook is too long,..and the finish is three light coats of Kyrlon semi gloss black .

but all in all not bad for my very first home build,.. total cost for me was right around 500 (the K-VAR kit was more expensive.) and yeah i could fix its problems,.. but i leave them there as a reminder for all of my other builds.

besides,... it runs like a raped ape now,.. so i am not messing with it.
