I am looking for a chest rig for use with an Ak. The scenario for use would be when the need for discretion is pretty much gone and a fight is expected, otherwise the rifle BOB would probably suit my needs. I would like a rig that either has pouches for body armor or can be worn over body armor. I have used the search option but found nothing very comprehensive on the subject. What has worked for you folks? Any suggestions.
Thanks

Why not get a plate carrier and just buy molle compatible AK pouches from one of the many nylon gear manufactureres?

I can tell you if you fu-young  the flaps on the Spec-Ops X-System 2-mag pouches, you can fit two AK 20s or 30s in each (although the pouches were made for AR mags).

Which plate carrier would you suggest?  Also, would you suggest this setup over getting a rig and wearing it over body armor, both as seperate pieces.

Yep. And it is not easy to find mag pouches that fit the 47's very curved mags, so be carefull of assumptions. try russiancombatgear.com too

Sure it is - it's just not peasant cheap.

Eagle's Plate Carrier is the one my buddy has and that I've had a chance to try out.  Nice setup and works as a 'tac vest' when you don't have plates (though it will be warmer than a traditional vest)  However the setup is more comfortable and easier to use than body armor with a vest over it..

The Eagle plate carrier looks like it might be the ticket.  What is the difference between this one and the one labeled LE?  They are the same price, can a civilian get the LE one.  Next, where would you look for body armor panels?  Which level of protection do you reccommend and who has good prices?  Thanks guys.

You'll need stand alone plates for the carrier if you're not wearing armor under it.

If you got the $$ I'd opt for Level 4 to stop rifle fire.

They are inexpensive, I don't think I'd qualify them as good.  I got one of those chest rigs along with the newer version in Nylon with snaps & velcro. The Nylon one is a bit better but...

The material is cheap, the straps are too thin and not stiff enough (they will dig into your shoulders if you have it on a while).  The slides and tie are archaic.

With mine I went through and relaced the tie strap with a 1" nylon strap and fastex buckle, and updated the slides (and stiching) on the straps.  I even removed the end pouches for Molle straps so I could attach an Otis cleaning kit and other gear.  At that point I thought it functional, but not my first choice.

If you're only looking for something for a 3 gun match or for dicking around with when plinking then the cheap harness is a deal.  Otherwise I'd go with the better gear.
