| I have removed the old wood handguard on my MAK90 and am trying to install the new synthetic. The lever/bar that I had to flip back to remove the handguard will now NOT move back up to its origonal position! What is the problem with this and how do I fix it? Also, same problem with the upper handguard, I untwisted the old handguard, and am trying to install the new synthetic, but it won't budge! Maybe I should file down the upperhandguard, but the bottom synthetic has metal tabs and I can't do anything with that. Should the lever be forced into place? |

Make sure the lower font handguard retainer is pressed in all the way- you have to line up a pin wiht a slot cut in the barrel (which you can't see) to get the lever to close. The lever is connected to an pin that has one side ground down flat, when the lever is up this flat side faces the barrel. The barrel has a divot/slot cut in it that the round side of the pin locks into when the lever is pressed down. The trick is that the handguard has to be pressed into the front of the receiver enough and the spring on the front of the handguard compressed enough to get that pin aligned over the slot/divot. Best way to figure out what is going on is remove the handguards, slide the lower front retainer forwad, and note the location of the slot. slide the reatiner over it and turn the lever (sans handguard) until you find the location where the lever will go down. Then mark the barrel in front of the handguard retainer with a pencil. When you now go to install the handguard and front retainer, you know how far you have to compress the ratiner to get it located over the slot so the lever will lock down. And yes, they can be very tight and sometimes take a small hammer or other hard object to get it to lock down. Sometimes you also have to remove a little of the handguard that may be blocking the lever from going all the way down. Good luck! and be sure to post pics when you are done. Dawg |
