While cleaning my AK, I noticed slight play between the gas piston and the bolt carrier. Its not a visible movement but it can be felt. I grabbed some vice grips and tried to tighten it but it wouldn't budge.

These should be screwed together solidly right?
Is it possibly crossthreaded?
Is there a quick fix or should i send it back to the manufaturer?

Am I right in thinking there should be no space between the piston and bolt carrier?

Yes. It's designed to be that way.

Thanks guys, I feel much better.

ETA: strange that I never noticed it before. Just sold a WASR also, and don't ever recall noticing that.

its not just screwed but pinned/riveted in as well. WASR's are welded on IIRC.
