I was told an AMD63 upper gas tube will fit a Romy rifle but the lower handguard will not fit. What is different with the AMD63/65 lower handguard? Why wont it fit? Can it be easily modified to fit a Romy rifle? I am wanting to build a AMD63 clone from a Romanian AK47. Any help would be appreciated. |
| The AMD-63 gas tube will fit the Romy, it is the same length. The AMD-65 tube will not fit because it is too short. The lower handguard on the AMD-63/65 is the same except for they may be riveted or spot welded together. You would have to modify the handguard to fit the Romy to hold it in place where it interfaces with the handguard retainer. The difference is the handguard retainer on the barrel. The Romy is open top and the AMD is closed top with pins that interface with the handguard. |

Would anyone have a close up pic of the front of the AMD lower handguard? What kind of modifications would have to be done to make it fit? I'm a certified welder, I also have friends who work in fab shops and machine shops so I'm sure I can modify it if it can be done. Just wondering what would be involved in doing the mods. |
