I ordered a Yugo Underfolder (my first AK) and I want to put a SAW type grip on it - is there one that can be put on it without modifications?  The gun is one of the Century ones with a DCI receiver, I think made by SOG.

Also, pardon my ignorance, is there anywhere on the net where I can find directions to replace the pistol grip or which has an exploded diagram of the M70 underfolder so I can try to figure it out myself?

Suggestions?

Here's what you need to do: It helps tremendously to have a dremel tool otherwise it is gonna be a lot of whittling/chiseling on your part.  The top inside will not sit right due to the M70's grip plate rivets.  You must hollow out the top inside preferably with a dremel tool so the grip will fit over these rivets.  It doesn't take much, but it will not seat down properly unless you do this.  From the inside, all works just fine.  The included Tapco rectangular spacer/washer and bolt works just fine.  It is best to use the largest hollow ground screwdriver bit that comes in those "gunsmith" screwdriver kits so as not to mar the bolt head slot and it also let's you torque the bolt down good and tight.

That is exactly what I was looking for.  Much appreciated.  Where did you get the grip?  The roe on the left tang of the underfolder-I assume that is for cheek weld - how did you do that?  I hope you consider imitation the most sincere form of flattery.

Thanks.

good lookin yugo!

Mine is almost identical, except I used black 550 cord on my stock, and Hockey tape around the stock grip to fatten it up and make it kind of squishy.  I stitched the ends of my 550 cord to keep it put.

My Dad like my yugo so much he bought one just like it, so maybe initation is  the most sincere flattery!

Cool website.  I wish I had the time.

Actually my longer range plans for the gun involve an ACE Galil type front sight and a rear peep - I was considering getting an AR15/ Galil type peep in the back to replace the ramp and notch type on the gun.

Do you think that a Galil or Krink type cover plate would fit on the gun?  They both have integral peep sights.  Also, from what I understand, Krebs is working on a new generation AR15 type peep - so I will at least wait until I see what that looks like.

I am used to the AR15 and other weapons with a rear peep and if I can get it to work on the AK without too much fuss, I am going to do it.   That way I will have a simple, durable AK with subtle modifications that will enhance the gun's ability without detracting from the simplicity, reliability and durability which are the best qualities of the AK types.

Cheers.
