I've been collecting Soviet gear for well over twenty years. The other day I was at a bazaar over here in Afghanistan and picked up a second model Soviet AKM bayonet. They had them months ago and had dried up, so when these popped up I grabbed one. Anyway, the guy I normally shop first tells me the bayonet I've just bought is a Pakistani made fake! He claims all Russian bayonets have a letter "R" on them for "Russian". None of my Soviet bayonets have a letter "R" for Russian on them. I know that's a crock of shit. I also highly doubt anyone is making fake AK bayonets, but for the sake of asking, has anyone heard of such a thing? It's probably the asshole's response to my buying from someone else instead of him. |

I don't post here often but I've been collecting Russian AK items and semi auto AKs for over 10 years. The guy is full of crap. I have never seen a Russian bayonet stamped with an R. As far as Pakistani copies go, the locals in the Peshawar area are noted for making copies of well know weapons and accesories. I don't doubt they may have made their own copies of Russian bayonets. | Never seen a Russian bayo marked with "R". 2nd generation AKM bayonet would have a Tula star or Izhevsk markings, some may have "11 inside racetrack" (not to be confused with Polish 11 inside oval). The only fake AK bayos I have seen are the Chinese ones that look like Mauser blades. |
I just laughed my ass off when I read that. It is actually written in the international bi-laws of the super double secret gun dealer handbook, rule #42: "Never actually know anything about the products or business you are dealing in." Which of course is always subject by rule #1 of the international bi-laws of the super double secret gun dealer handbook, "Opinion or hearsay is fact in the matter of the firearms business." |

Never heard of the R thing either.. As others have said, R in Russian is a P. The Pakistanis do make ALLOT of fake Russian stuff, but normally are easy to tell if you are a collector or know what you are looking for.. They will make small errors like use a Chinese receiver, mark it with a year they were out of production, etc. |
Might I add I got a glimpse of a page when I was at the store the other day It was rule #64. Put them off 2 weeks and hope it come in. Which, not by coinicdence is am sure. is what the Slogan on the RobArms symbol means..... |

Update on the bayonet retards; I'd been asking this guy to bring in some Soviet bayonets for weeks, but he obviously got pissed off that someone else beat him to the punch. I think what i got from the "fake" dealer was Bulgarian, but I'm not sure. A week later the guy who claimed a real Soviet bayonet had an "R" on it brought in a nice batch of Soviet bayonets, first and second models, all mint. I grabbled several in various colors, first models that is. I picked up yet another second model from him, even though he was full of shit about the others being fake. A couple of weeks later the bazaar was full of bayonets, eveyone eveidently accusing the others of selling fakes! Yeah, I'd like to see some fake bakelite products. This week though it mostly dried up. I did manage to find an Egyptian AKM bayonet! The insulator is shot. Anyone know of a place to get a black/grey insulator in good shape? The hanger was broken, but it was stamped in Arabic on the sheath. It didn't match between sheath and bayonet, but at least I found it over here. |
