Hello, Hoping to get some help/advice from the experts here. I have a Romanian SAR-2 with a fixed stock. I'm interested in installing an underfolder stock. Is this possible for this rifle? If so, is it a simple or complex (requiring mods, etc.)installation? Finally, where might I find an underfolder stock for purchase? I used the "search" feature & couldn't find the answers to my questions. Any help and/or advice is much appreciated. Thanks! |

It is possible in two ways that I know of. First way: Grind off the rivets on your rear tang, remove it and drill new holes for an underfolder rear trunnion... Lots of work if you are not experienced. Second way: Somebody out there makes an underfolder trunnion that screws into a regular fixed rear tang so that you can mount an underfolder to your rifle. This mod will increase length of pull and not look as cool, and I don't know where to find it, but I am sure somebody will come along and let us know. As far as finding an underfolder, just keep your eye on the EE. |

The option that mounts to your rear tang is not desirable in my oppinion as it moves the stock to the rear so you can't unfold the stock with a magazine inserted... Or... at least that is what I recall and the reason you don't see many of these... I put a Romanian sidefolder on my SAR-1 and I like it! the sidefolder does not look as cool BUT they are far more comfortable to shoot and they are just as compact. If I wanted an underfolder, I would remove the rear trunion and replace it with a correct underfolder trunion but that is a lot of work to get to use a less comfortable stock IMHO. |

If you were to go through with it, you would have a very unique rifle. I say go for it! It's going to be costly as unless you can mill the holes in the reciever, you're going to have to send it out to have it done. Several vendors sell Polish UF stocks. You could send the rifle out, refinish the wood while it's gone, and have something unique and interesting to show for it. |
Mill? You don't need a mill! A dremmel tool is all that is required BUT you may need to weld the old rivet holes up (JB Weld Would work) and then paint the rifle... I just don't know if the original poster is up to do the rivets himself... |
