Help me decide between a Vector AK-47 Classic or the SSR-85c-2 from Atlantic Firearms.  The SSR is $569 and the Vector is $499.  Which of these is a better rifle?

I've been agonizing over a similar decision.  Eagerly awaiting replies.

Ya I really want to make my decision, but I dont want to make the wrong one.  I am going to my ranch soon, and it will be my last chance for a while, and I reallly want an AK.  Its down to what people say about the Vector and the SSR-85c-2

Edited for spelling.

I have both and i say flip a coin and buy the one you can get your hands on first or if one or the other has the best price. They are about the same and i dont  think you could go wrong with one or the other, both companys have good customer service(not that i have used it ,but from talking to them and reading about them on this and other boards). Besides .. its an AK you will be in the ground and turing into dust buy the time it wears out. Good luck

But something has to be different, all That I know of is that the SSR doesn't have a bayonet lug and the Vector does.  If they are the same, why aren't they the same price?  Whats the reciever size?? on the Vector, the SSR has 1.6 mm.  And the company does't matter, Im getting either of them through Atlantic.

Only differences are:

The SSR-85C-2 has a vented gas tube, 1.6mm receiver (extremely rugged), AK-47 type FSB, no bayonet lug.

The Vector Classic design has an AKM styled gas tube and FSB, 1mm receiver (either OOW or Armory USA), and bayonet lug.

Both come with a removeable slant style muzzle brake.  I know the SSR-85 sports a chrome-lined barrel but I am unsure about the Vector.

SSR-85-C2 is built primarily in Bulgaria with Bulgy parts.  I THINK the Vector's are built from Polish parts kits.  Not sure about this.  Blaine at Atlantic, would have more information.

If you plan on modifying this thing, I'd go with Vector.  It costs less and has a better warranty, (5 years).  Just be careful you don't modify the weapon to the point your mods void the warranty.

Have you considered the Vector underfolder?

I have, But i prefer something that I can either choose to put on a side folding or a fixed wood stock.  What folding stocks go on a 1.6 mm?

ACE stocks, I believe.  But I've read where the 1.6mm receiver can be difficult to work with.  I prefer fixed stocks, but that's me.  BTW, member "xxx357" is selling an SSR-85C-2 for $499 + actual shipping.  That's a great price.  It's listed on the EE boards.

I am actually looking for a more AK traditional stock, like a romanian side folder or one of those Krinkov folding stocks pictured on most of the Krinkovs on the Krinkov pic thread.

As a member of AR15.com Atlantic Firearms will sell you an SSR85c-2 for $519 plus shipping.
You can have your choice of the wood stocks or poly for the same price

Check under the AK47 Equipment Exchange for info.

Thats a nice little savings.

Better reciever in my opinion - 1.6mm ~v~ 1mm. The Globals feel really solid

Whats gonna make up the decision for me about wich one to get is if the Vector can get a Krinkov stock on it no modifications to reciever, I get the Vector, if not, Ill get the SSR.

I think with either one you will wind up pulling rivets and the rear trunnion if you want a traditional folder on it.  If you don't have something to press rivets with then its off to the AK smith with it.

If you are after accuracy, go for the 1.6 mm receiver.

It would be alot easier if you limited this discussion to one thread instead of 3 on the AK forum here.  dupe x's 3

I guess it also comes down to what you want to do with it. The full stock in either wood or poly would be the better choice as Bachelor of Science mentioned. I have been to several "Gun schools" for  tactical shooting and full stock is the only way to go. The Warsaw length stocks are a little shorter and make shouldering the AK from the low ready alot faster

$19 more and you get the 1.6mm reciever on the Global.. thicker then an RPK's reciever. (No brainer there)

Bayonet & Bayonet Lug....pretty much useless....  If you have time to mount use a bayonet you have time to switch over to a handgun...

I guess thats right for home defense and tactical situations, but it would be like a fun ranch gun, I have a pistol for home defense, I think I am going to go with the SSR, then maye later Ill buy an actual Krinkov and more AKs that server different purposes.
Thanks for all the info you guys gave me. Greatly Appreciated.

The full stock rifle is the way to go if you own the Global rifle with the 1.6mm receiver.  If you want a custom rifle, don't cobble up one that is already built.  Have one built to your specifications.

If you want an underfolder, get one from Atlantic Firearms is they still have the AR15.com discount.  It will be a quality rifle currently build on a Global Trades 1mm receiver if I recall.

Or go with a Yugo underfolder built on a US receiver with a new US barrel.

If you want a rifle with the Romanian side folder for compact storage in a vehicle, Get a SAR-1 or WASR and install the stock.  They may not be the most expensive rifles but for the most part they work well if you check them for defects before you buy and you can do all kinds of easier modifications without emptying your bank account.

There is nothing wrong with SSR-85c-2 as long as it functions when you get it.  Don't forget to ask for the discount.

You would do best to check out the AK reference forum for all kinds of info
