| I was at the range yesterday with a buddy shooting a variety of evil black rifles including a plain-Jane Romanian AK. My friend recently had the trigger worked on by a professional gunsmith to help reduce the trigger slap some AK's are famous for. While he was shooting it he was getting normal semi auto fire. For some reason when I shot it I was getting two and three round bursts. Not that it wasn't cool, but I didn't like the stares we got from the crusty old black powder shooters at the range, not to mention a chance at 10 years in federal pound me in the ass prison. I looked at the action and couldn't see anything out of the ordinary with the trigger group. The trigger pull is lighter than the trigger on my AK, but nothing that should trip the sear like that. I was holding the rifle tightly against my shoulder with a tight cheek weld, so the weapon wasn't bump firing. The only thing I could think of is that I was shooting his AK right after shooting my Remington PSS precision rifle with a 2.5# trigger pull. Maybe I was squeezing the trigger so gently that it wasn't quite resetting. No matter how hard my buddy tried he could not replicate my results. I suggested he take the rifle back to the smith to avoid any hassles with the Feds. |

Is the trigger now a single stage trigger? I had the same problem with my Rommy which also had trigger work done. Turned out when the trigger was just right, the hammer wouldn't catch the hook or the disconnector. The solution is to grind some metal from the bottom of the disconnector tab so that it will sit closer to the hook. |

From what I heard you cannot get in trouble for a malfunctioning gun so dont worry. What the issue is is the diconnector spring is too soft and it is not enganging the hammer when the bolt cycles. Replace the diconnector spring and you should be fine. (I have had multiple AKs do the same thing, it is actually quite common) |
