My PSL's firing pin is sticking. I don't know how long it's been like that. I put 40 rnds through it yesterday and noticed afterwards. Is the firing pin supposed to freefloat easily? If so, how where can I get a new pin and how do I replace it? CMS |

Don't unpin that bolt assembly unless you have to. Start off by spraying some penetrating fluid in there. Let it sit and do it again every 15 minutes of so. That should flush it out well. My Ewbanks AKM had a sticky pin like that when new. Tiny bit of blasting grit was in it. A few flushes like that and it was fine. No problems since then either. |

Thanks so far guys. The pin used to freefloat in the bolt when I first got it. Put 40 rnds through it and not it seems as if the pin is either bent or broke inside the bolt. I'm probably going to dissassemble it if WD-40 and brake cleaner don't fix it tommorrow. CMS |

Not sure if you know this or not. If you disassemble the bolt you should only have to push out the retainer pin (the small pin that goes from top of bolt to the bottom of bolt) to get the Firing Pin to slide out the back of the bolt. To do this place the bolt with the top resting on some soft pine. Tap the retainer pin from the bottom of the bolt to punch the pin out of the top of the bolt. Be careful not to enlarge the retainer pin hole on the bottom of the bolt. The retainer pin is meant to be removed out of the top of the bolt only. Once you have the pin started moving you can usually hold the bolt in your hand to complete the retainer pin removal. Once retainer pin is out, firing pin can be slid out the back of the bolt. You should not need to perform futher disassembly of the bolt assembly. In other words you shouldn't have to remove any part of the extractor assembly. It's not that big of a deal to do - I do it all the time but if you're not familiar with it, I wouldn't do it just because. Assemble in reverse order. Start the retainer pin into the hole in the top of the bolt (around 0.2 inches but not enough to interfere with firing pin insertion). Looking at the firing pin you'll see a cut out on one side on the forward part of the firing pin. This is how the firing pin is retained with the retainer pin. Slide the firing pin into the hole in the back of the bolt with the cut out on the firing pin on the right hand side . Tap the retainer pin down - you might use a small screwdriver inserted into the end of the bolt firing pin hole just to keep the firing pin from rolling over - the retainer pin will need to slide past the cutout in the firing. The final position of the retainer pin should be where the end of the pin is just below the surface of the top of the bolt. |

Thanks for the dissassembly instructions. Turns out I went and shot today (before messing with it) and the PSL worked for 7 rnds. Then I got very light primer strikes and failure to fire's. Dissappointed...I took it homw and took the firing pin out of the bolt. Along with the pin came the flattened rim of a cartridge. Turns out that it was binding with the firing pin. After I put it all back together it the pin would shake freely in the bolt. Looks like that was the problem. Wil be back at the range tommorrow to test fire and then to the farm for some more 500yd fun now that the hay is all cut down. Will keep you updated if there are any more problems. Thanks again guys! Also...need a round adjustment nut for a PSO scope. The one on the PSL has a few teeth missing. Post or IM me if you have a source for them. I don't want to buy an entire clamp assembly because the one on there now is serial numbered to the gun. Thanks! CMS |
