I am about $300 away from ordering mine. I've already recieved eight RPD drums that I ordered a little over two weeks ago. This is the most excited I've been since my first SKS. Wanting to know if anyone here has any experience with Vector, or owns one of these RPDs.

I have no experience with their RPDs, but I'm a big fan of Vector. They make some nice AKs! By the way, someone was selling an RPD on the equipment exchange the other day, looked really nice. Maybe it is still for sale.......

I'd like to find a plain receiver to build a kit on, that would be a great project.  The complete ones look great, and Vector has a great reputation.

Hope you get a good one. From what I've been reading over the years you have a 50-50 shot of getting one that works correctly out of the box. Good luck with it.

I had a chance to hands on one a month or 2 ago and almost had to have it.
The thing is beautiful. Very cool to play with.  There is a local guy who has it
and is actually interested in selling it. I have a set of pics of it if you are interested
in seeing it. I beleive the serial is under 40, so it is an early one.
Here is a pic i took when i saw it.

I have one of the post samples in full auto. Mine does not like Chinese belts. It tended to run away. No problems with Russian belts. The main difference is that you load Chinese belts by snapping the rounds down into the belt. The Russian belts are loaded by sliding the rounds up into the belt. I doubt you would have this problem with a semi, but I thought I'd mention it just in case.

Make sure you buy your belts from Vector, thay are in like new condiotn.  I tryed to save a few bucks and by some from GunParts.  The belts from gun parts were all beat to hell.

I got a low serial numbered RPD unfired and it ran fine, right out of the box.

Mine arrived assembled incorrectly; there are two different sets of Russian parts and the top covers are not interchangable. When i called Vector they put me in touch with "Glen, the RPD guy"  who said "Yep, wrong top cover. Wonder how we test fired it?"

I didn't give him the obvious response, but since you couldn't cycle the action the answer was pretty clear.

It went straight back to Vector and was shipped back to me in about two weeks. Worked fine since then. Got my extra drums from Northridge for 3/$100 complete in pouches.

Bought a HK style gun from them and had trouble with the handguard, customer support was very good.

The gun it self is very nice.

Shot a post sample that ran like a charm.  A very fun gun to shoot.

Had to send mine back would never work.

After I got it back from repair still wouldnt work.

So I returned it for a refund. Of course I ended up loosing about $75 in shipping and transfer fees plus a loss on the 8-10 drums I ordered.

Vector is very professional and even if you get a bad one they will make it right or if they
cant will refund most of your purchase price.

I would spend my $$$$ on something else like :
Arsenal RPK w/lots of 40 rd mags and Romanian or Chinese Drums .
                   &
PPSH from Military Gun supply

Or whatever combo you could think of.

I was thinking about getting an Arsenal RPK with a Beta C magazine w/ AK top. Now that would be nice except Beta-C somehow forgot they are made of plastic and charge ten times what they are worth.

Is Vector selling RPD receivers...?

One problem I have witnessed and experienced with my RPD when I first got it was in the way the belts are laid in.  Instructions say to pull the belt in until it stops - doing so, mine would not feed and or jam  I studied the mechanism for a moment and could see why.  What you need to do is lay the second cartridge into the curved stop (whatever it's called), close the cover and it will feed fine.  I know of several Vector owners who's complaints were feeding problems and this advice cured their problems.  After about 10-12 rounds of jam-o-matic, mine has not failed to feed once in hundreds of rounds.  I use both style belts without a hitch using both belts/drums purchased from Vector and ORF.  Recoil is surprising from the little cartridge due to the mass of the moving parts - adjust the gas system for your ammo.  If it makes a difference, mine has only fired Chinese ammo and it seems somewhat hotter than Wolf.
