A little advise, if you please.  I would like to add a FH like this one to my SAR 2.  Issues of "not historically correct" aside, do any of you have any advise on 1) parts count, and 2) "that wont work, try this".  FWIW, I don't care much for the birdcage style, and my SAR, as far as I know, is factory original, and I also don't care if it won't mount a bayonet.
Thanks
Vinnie

Vinnie-I am currently going through some changes on my SAR3 involving flash hiders, etc.  First of all, the Romy threaded FSB is threaded at 22mm.  The FH you are looking at is threaded for 24mm.  Your best bet is to just put the Romy FSB on and buy a 74 style brake from AKUSA.  If there are more options...I am sure someone will chime in.  Rest assured the one I mentioned is the easiest.

Good Luck!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but your SAR-2 dosen't have any muzzle threads, correct?

That said, you'll have to either -

A. Thread the existing barrel for 14x1 LH and use 14x1 LH FH, or you can use the 14x1 LH to 24x1.5 RH adapter. You're also going to have to add a plunger, if the hole is aleady there, this should be easy.

B. Mount a threaded FSB. If you want to use that break, you'll need a 24mm Bulgarian FSB from K-var. I don't think using the Bulgarian FSB would pose any problems, but someone else on here assuredly knows more about it than I do.

I have that problem, evan when I am by myself!

Where can one find a threaded fsb?

Both A and B are wrong.

A) SAR-2 barrels will not thread to 14x1 because the diameter is too small. You have to thread it to 1/2 x 28. It's the same size as an AR15 thread pitch, so you can add a bird cage or other AR flash hiders with no problems. Global Trades sells a 1/2 x 28 to 24mm adapter. http://globaltrades.com/ak_muzzl_1.html
Just rent a barrel threading kit from "WJM" in the EE, thread it to 1/2x28, add the adapter from global trades and you can add that Krink flash hider.

B) SAR-2 barrels are too small to use the Bulgarian threaded FSB.  You could get it to fit with shims and some ingenuity but it will look like crap.

HTH.

Yes, that's the Romanian threaded FSB. It will work on the SAR-2, SAR-3, Romak-2, CUR-2, etc.
The only muzzle attachment in 22mm that is currently available is the '74 style brake made by AK USA www.ak-103.com/parts.html
They cost $75

Real Romanian brakes dried up about 2 years ago. They were around $40 from K-VAR. You might find one in the EE if you are lucky.

You know, I tried the 'looks like crap" route with a M4 stock. I think I will skip that step on the front end.  I'm thinking "plum"  is in my future.

I learned something too - had no idea the FSB journal on a Romy barrel was smaller than Russian pattern!

Ditto to what Ne1 said... I have four SAR2's to prove it :)...

AR threading with the proper adapter is likely to be your cheapest, most versitile route....

I would personally go the threaded FSB route from K-var!!  That is what I did.  I was lucky enough to find a guy who had an original Romy 74 brake he sold me for $30.  It retains the authentic look and the brake works like a charm!

I used a Bulgarian FSB and muzzle comp when I did my SAR 3.  AK-USA wasn't offering a Romy compensator when I did mine.  I shimmed the top of the bbl so that I could drill the retaining pins in the bbl like they should be.  I don't think it "looks like crap" ....it came out good to go.

My 2 cents....buy the Romy FSB from K-var, and the Romy compensator from AK-USA, shim it and redrill the retaining pins, then you will have a authentic FSB.  Good luck on the mod.

My SAR2 runs .51 at the muzzle, .52 just in front of the FSB, and .53 just behind the FSB.  I think your right 18BSOTTM, I don't think yours "looks like crap" , the only posable fly in the ointment is that I want a FH, not a comp.  After all, this is just a 5.45!  AK-103 shows some FHs that might work, I think they are from RBP, but RBP does not show them on there web sight.  I think I'll call tomarow and check if they are the right thread.  Thanks for all the help!

I missed the fact that you wanted a "Krink" stile FH, not a regular muzzle comp.  I'm sure if you give RPB a call  they will get you going in the right direction..good luck and let us know how it comes out.
