Hi Fellas,

How do you guys remove a gas piston?  I don't see and retainer pin, so I'm just assuming that it screws off.  However, I can't get a good grip on the rounded edge to remove it.  Maybe I'm turning the wrong way?

Any tips would be greatly appreciated.

Look carefully...there is a crosspin there.
It goes through the end of the carrier, and through the threaded paet
of the piston. You might have to sand off some of the finish on the end
of the carrier. Look for a little thin ring. That is the outline of the pin hole.

Using a proper sized pin punch, place the piston / carried on a firm surface.
I use a partially open vise jaw. Hold the punch on the pin and give it a good whack.
It will usually move easily. Drive the pin out and unscrew the piston.
Screw on the new piston. Let it wobble a bit if you need. Drill your new hole
throught the already present hole in the carrier end.
You might have to make a new pin.  I used a large nail and beat it down in the hole.
Grind it smooth to match the end, and you are all set.

Bud, Kyakguy's right. Also there's a tutorial at RED STAR ARMS website (listed left of very pleasant distraction) and I was able to order a retainer pin from Numrich Gun Parts. Good luck. dogear

On my 2 builds, I drilled the pin out.
