| I'm seeing WOLF 7.62 for $110-$120 per case. Backordered, or up to date? Do my saddened eyes decieve me? |
AFAIK, if it shows an actual price on the web site (i.e. $110.00 - 1000 rounds) , it's in stock. Items that are out of stock will have an empty price (i.e. $ - 1000 rounds). See 5.45x39 for an example of that. |
I have one, it's okay. I don't like it as much as 7.62x39. The guys at Wolf swear they will have more ammo in relatively soon, course what else are they going to say? |
Supposedly the russian rounds have an indentation in the tip that the troops thought caused serious wounds, but I would not give that a lot of weight. The wolf stuff does not have the funny thing on the end of the bullet. It feels pretty anemic when you shoot it, more so that 5.56. |
5.45x39 is a neat little round, and I much prefer it to 7.62x39 in terms of accuracy and recoil. As far as its wounding potential - it got a nasty reputation during the Soviet campaign in Afghanistan, but in actuality it is probably less effective than 5.56/.223 because it does not fragment. A little light reading for ya: www.btammolabs.com/fackler/ak74_wounding_potential.pdf www.cruffler.com/Features/OCT-01/trivia-October01.html www.akforum.net/phpBB2/viewtopic.php?t=1346 |

Both Wolf and Silver Bear have the air tipped bullet. They don't have steel penetrators of course. I personally don't believe in terminal ballistics. People aren't made of a homogenous Jell-O, calibrated or not. I don't think getting shot with a 5.45, 5.56, or 7.62 will make you any more or less dead provided the shot hits the same spot on your body. I'd rather take a hit to the stomach with an 8x57 than a hit in the chest with a .32. Be realistic. |
The Russian military loading (7N6) has an airspace in the nose, followed by a lead "plug" and a steel core. On impact, the nose crumples and the core shifts forward, causing the bullet to rapidly destabilize and start rotating end-over-end. The commercial loadings lack the steel core, and thus behave differently. They tend to yaw to 90 degrees within the first 4-5" of penetration and stay in that orientation for the duration of their travel. |
So you're saying a 5.45 that leaves a .21" diameter hole will be just as lethal as a 5.56 which exhibits violent fragmentation? ![]() |
That's not entirely true... I just tried to order some Winchester Q3131 from them since I won't deal with 7 days and counting... ![]() |
oh man, where to start archive.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=4&f=51&t=82875 archive.ar15.com/forums/topic.html?b=3&f=16&t=258213 do a search on more. |
Isn't this info only based on the fragmentation of 5.56, in other words, how do they compare when 5.56 doesn't fragment? |
BTW Hostile1 is not a member and those are archived items. I would also like to know the issues with them outside of becoming a team member someone could bump those threads. |

those claims on the Yugo UF are BS 1) Ammunitionstore parts out the kits to their gunshow vendors, with everyone at the gunshows finger proding the parts kits to check the barrel condition, a recoil guide could have easily been misplaced, Ammunitionstore was very generious for honoring parts problems for kits sold by its vendors at gunshows, no matter if it was seven weeks, hell the kit is there in your hand to inspect at the show anyway 2) ALL yugos have the pre assembly engraving on them on all parts, independent of the final rifle serial number, much like lot numbers for those particular parts |
| I live right in the area where ammunitionstore.com is based out of. My only dealings with them have been at gun shows. They seem to have the best prices, and have always been real helpful. I have purchased 4-5 guns and a bunch of ammo from them. I have been extremely happy with everything. |
|
I have learned to call before I drive down, since the web and whse do not always match right. I bought their last Chicom AK pellet gun last year, but it's still on the site. Some show prices are a bit more than the web price, and a few rare times it's friggin lower. Their average is quite good, even though nobody seems to ship for less than Dans. But Dan does not have Carmen's eyes |
