I called Copes the other day to order a Yugo RPK kit and they were nice enough to tell me they just received some Romanian underfolders. I am a sucker for spur of the moment purchases. In case you didn't already know they had them listed.

How much are they?

Cool, its been awhile since ive seen any Romanian underfolders.

Interordnance had them last, IIRC.

Yes, Interordnance.  About 15 months ago. $105 for a complete AIMS parts set.

Only bought one as a representative example for my collection, since they are such a homely Kalashnikov.

Hey, I have a riddle.

Riddle: How do you turn a $99 kit into a $210 kit?

Answer: Add a $50 underfolding stock.

When I ordered mine he wasn't for sure what the price would be. It worked in my favor. I'm after a representative example as well. I didn't want my RPK to be all alone in the box. I'll know Monday if they got along.

I will add that Copes is a great place to do business with.

Roger made some accomodations for me that other vendors would not - for no extra charge.

My goods were delivered quickly, and were in great shape.

The guy I talked to was going through them giving me full details while on the phone. Not too many will do that for you. This was my first order with Copes. I would keep my eye on them. I think they have a few other things up their sleeves.

Copes is excellent.  I meant no disrespect to Roger.

I meant that it's still a Romy with all the "characteristics" that come with Romy machine work.

Yep, i have 4 Romys that i'm building.  Fun guns.  Great prices for the kits.  However, when you start getting into the $200+ range, i personally like to see better quality parts than Romy.

It's supply and demand.  maybe there are only 10% as many Romy underfolders and that's why the higher price. i dunno.  It's just kinda high unless you are a collector.

my $.02

The underfolder stock assembly looks to be the less complex single side latch design. At what angle is the stock when locked open?

I'm building one of these, Z-recto is doing the wood for me and its gonna be parkerized black. McM

Yeah, it does have a drop to it. The rear trunion is totally different as well. The pivot point is further forward than a Pole or Yugo and it has a different rivot pattern. It only has one set of locking lugs and the large nut on the right side is exposed. Here's just the stock mounted on a Pole. On a Pole it won't clear the selector or the rear rivots when folded.

I like the Romy UFs.

Two questions (honest, not sarcastic)

1.  If the mounting points are different, who is making a recevier that will work with one of these.

2.  Why would I spend $209+shipping on this kit vs. $245 shipped for an unfired Polish underfolder kit with $40+ of accessories included?

JoeBud what were the trunnion dates on these kits? The pictue on Copes site looks like 60s vintage kits.
Thanks

jithica, that I don't know. I'll give a report Monday.

Dawg, 1. you'll have to either fill the holes or start with an undrilled receiver.
2. If I didn't already have a Pole and Yugo I wouldn't. I'm after variety.

They mount the pivot point more forward to clear the forward pistol grip I believe.

They also used the older style single point lock up for the milled underfolders.

They look neat, and if they're late 60's or so then the quality is likely better than later ones, but I think I'd still go for the Polish for about the same money.

Romanian AIMS underfolding stock mounting block.  I haven't removed the two through rivets, yet.

I love mine!

It may or may not be as nice as my Polish guns, but it is unique!

If you already have a Polish kit, get one of these, too.
