I'm a proud native of the great state of Texas, but I'm in a bit of a bind b/c I'm currently a full-time graduate student a major California institution.

The problem is-- as we all know-- that those who know better than we do have made CA a non-free state; and right now, I really want to get a Tantal 5.45 X39 before supplies dry up... I won't be able to return back to Austin until I graduate in December of 2006, by which time all the Tantal supplies may have gone the way of Clinton's credibility.

So, is there a way to have an FFL dealer in a free state buy and then hold the rifle for me until I return home in December '06? I realize this is a really unusual request and may not be feasible. !For sure, I want to do everything legally!

I've tried friends back home in Austin, and most of them by now have families, so they really don't want firearms in their houses... So any suggestions will be greatly appreciated-- thanks for the time and Happy Holidays. JAMES

Why not just buy a parts kit, have it sit unassembled with family/friends in TX, and then build it/have it built when you California?

Thanks for the reply! Is it posible to have a parts kit shipped to me here in LA, or is that a ban problem? Alternatively, as a CA resident, is it possible for me to purchase these kits and have them shipped to TX?

Sure.  They are parts, not a gun.

I'd check the laws.  Here in NYC, even parts kits are verboten...

Maybe you can have it stored in the store, he'll probably charge you per month though. Or maybe in a police armory.

Im pretty sure you can hae the parts kit....Dont think you can have the mags.

I would just get the kit, hold onto it, and build it when you move back to Free America.

Thanks so much for the kind replies to my quandry... Believe me, I had NO idea what I was giving up when I let go of my Texas residency to go to graduate school here... I'll never make that mistake again!!

Whatever happened to the concept of "The Government that governs best governs least?" It's amazing to this Texan how many laws they've got down here for everything-- mainly, laws designed to extract you from your $$$. There's no middle class here.hatNEVER leaving! HAPPY
