Its hard to build one for much less than buying a Semi from ORF @ 999

Hell it shows 1999.00 at ORF. Kit 400 side plate 125 trigger 125 rivets 25 = 675. Looks cheaper to me am I missing something.

kit 400
rivets 15.00
sideplate 125.00 machine work done, just drill and countersink
trigger, sear 125.00
and if you don't have a mill
100.00 to 200.00 to do the internals.
675.00 plus internals
the plus is you don't have to weld anymore justuse rivets. go to 1919a4 to get the best pricing on the internals. finished mine 2months ago and it runs great. you should see the looks I get at the range.

Thats direct from ORF.... CDNN has the ORF guns for $999.  Figure a small dealer markup and the price isn't bad at all.

Unless you already have the tools for the build, its really not worth building.

ORF sells them through CDNN for 999 pn their website...Its a fair amount of hours of labor building one. The upside to building one is that you will know it inside and out, will probably be higher quality than the ORF.

My guess is that you'll prbably spend about $800 building it and finsihing it.

To me it was a no brainer to pay $999 for the built one, but I understand some people enjoy the building process.

I recall seeing a ATF tech branch letter saying that you no longer had to weld the sideplate on the 1919, riveting is enough now.

Keep in mind that the sideplate is a 80% and super easy to complete, so no FFL required in the whole process.

Before you go 1919, check out 1919a4.com. TONS of information.

I went the ORF/CDNN route. They use a unique sear system, When I got the gun, I ended up needing a new sear, which ORF got right out to me. You may want to consider a KMP trigger/sear combo, but that requires getting a new bolt and having it machined, which isnt really that expensive.

You can switch from 308 to 8mm very easily, which allows you to shoot very cheaply. Get an 8mm barrel, front cartridge stop, and use a 3006 barrel booster. There are 2 kinds of links, the original 30-06, which will work with that and 8mm($20 per K), and izzy 308 linnks ($70 per K), which will work for all 3 calibers. If you get the 8mm, you can use the cheaper 30-06 links. You can also use belts, but they are a PITA to load by hand, unless you have a $1000 belt filler. Links are easy to load by hand if you dont wanna buy a link loader, they just beat up your fingers while you load them.

I have also seen one on a M42 tripod with the spring carriers. Make a metal plate with a SAW grip, notch out the grip for the 1919 trigger, armor up an index finger on your glove, and enjoy 400rpm bumping!!!

Weaponeer has select kits for $385 and standard kits for $370.  You can get cheap spare barrels with the kits, too, IIRC.

Do you have a good, affordable source for these?  Could someone post some info on exactly what is needed for a tripod setup?  I've found information on about a million different tripod parts, but I'm not sure how they all fit together.  Thanks.

Okay...I'm tantalized!  What's the cheapest way I can get into an 80% build for 1919A4?   What special tools do I need?  Rivets sound like I just need a hammer and a heavy piece of metal....

I'll do the research on 1919.com, I just wanna hear if you guys have some tips n'tricks for doing it on the cheap.

Why would anyone want spare barrels?  Do they wear out really fast due to non-chrome lining?

I picked up my kit at a online auction, the kits was perfect,, i bought a ORF sideplate(80%) and kmp trigger and sear

Where i saved the money is that i machined the internals of the gun myself..
and built my own tripod.

I have a whole $2.00 in the tripod as i already had the materials laying around
from some other building products.. so i only had to buy a can of paint..

You change barrels on a machine gun when the barrel gets too hot...  If you're going for full authenticity, it's kinda nice to have at least one spare.  If you don't get one now, you might not be able to change your mind later, with the barrel ban and all.

Not correct, you need to machine the bolt, barrel extension, and lock frame and accelerator. You will need to replace the trigger and sear with a semi-auto version.

Go to www.1919a4.com for all the info you need to build one.

Guys,, you are not going to machine the bolt with a dremmel tool.. you must use a fly cutter bit on a mill.. the pieces need to be finished to a close tolerance..  its really easy to do if you have the
proper tools..

The reason we need extra barrels is thats its possible to shoot one out  if you are using a crankfire
some barrels are chrome lined and some are not ..
Head spacing these guns to the ammo is critical .. the barrels are adjustable and need to be set any time you remove the internals for cleaning and change ammo ...   the internals on these guns
operate compleatly different than most guns most of you guys have...
1919a4.com  has all the info you will need to build one of these guns.. and the maintnance required
to keep it firing in great shape..

once you build and fire a belt feed gun,, you will not be excited about any other type of gun again
you guys think AK's are addictive.. they dont hold a candle to a well running 1919a4 :)

OK...Here's a pic of the Tripod i just got last week for my upcoming 1919 build.
It was done by a local guy here that thought he would try to make some replicas
from a set of blueprints he found on line. I should be getting the tapered bushing to
install sometime this week.

I was looking for a more authentic tripod for it.
More may be on the way, but im not sure what he is going to sell them for.

+1

My kit gets here tomorrow, and I found a guy on 1919A4.com that makes reproduction M2 tripods for $150.  1919a4.com/cgi-bin/noncgi/Forum3/HTML/000890.html  Apparently they're not as pretty as the real thing, but they're rock solid.  The thread has info on reprodution pintles and T&E's, too.

I'm really starting to get excited about this!

Theres a new conversion chambered in 762x39 for the 1919's but its priced in the 400 dollar range, comes with a new barrel, bullet guide and various related parts, i saw the article in small arms review a few months ago, I will have to find that issue and see if theres a website and post it for anyone who is intersted.  McM

FWIW, I recall the difficulty of building one of these kits up is near 10, with an AK being a 5 and an AR being a 1. I've never built one, but that's 'what I heard'

Also, I'd think about getting a 8mm conversion for it before I got a 7.62x39 conversion. 8mm ammo is super cheap.

[#47]
Well, it depends on what you consider a difficult build.  If you had to do your own machining on the parts, then yes, for me it would be a very difficult build.  If you send them off to get them machined ($150-$200 usually), the build should be relatively simple.  From what I've seen, it's some basic assembly first.  Then, you just drill some holes and rivet the side plate on.  The ATF has decided that you no longer have to weld the right side plate in place, so you don't even have to know how to weld.  In all fairness, I've never built either of these, but it sounds to me like it would be about the same difficulty as building an AK using a 100% receiver.

See for yourself.  1919a4.com has a build tutorial.  When you read it, keep in mind that the welding is no longer required by law.

there are guys over on the 1919 forum that will machine your parts for as little as $75.00
which is a real deal..

Not much need for it...If you are thinking ammo would be cheaper, go take a look at 8mm prices...You can get it some places still for 40-60$ a case
