a good custom AK by a good builder! What do you guys base an arsenal or vepr as being better than a custom build? I have a few Ak's and can say I'm quite disappointed on the finish of an arsenal! Actually, the finish is pathetic!!! gunscrubber took it off and it began to run. The vepr is nice, but the conversion is a pain in the ass. I'd put any of my AK's up against a vepr or arsenal!!!!! ps. All AK's go BANG -- Really not that big of a difference like COLT -> Bushmaster -LMT - etc. |

Because most "custom builds" are made on U.S. receivers. I'll never own an AK built on a U.S. receiver. I want to spend my money on quality and U.S. AK receivers aren't quality. |

 Seems like this always turns into a Vepr vs. Arsenal thread. Both are top of the line AK's. Both will more than do the job. Arsenal's are preferred by guys like me who like more "traditional" AK's and those who like milled receivers. Veprs are preferred by a coupla guys down Georgia way who don't know any better  .Just kidding, Vepr's are great rifles and there are people working on doing a lot with them as far as stock options and accessories go. |

It's very obvious that most people that bash the VEPR have never held one. They take the same magazines as any other AK. In fact I use Bulgarian waffles in mine. Plus, my "incorrect" looking VEPR outshot the last two Arsenals at the range. |
Cool, +1 for the VEPR if it uses readily available mags. I've been thinking about "un-bastardizing" one next year but wasn't sure about the mag situation ... P.S. I've never said VEPRs weren't shooters, I just think they look like shit in their original configuration ...

You think it looks like shit, I think it looks F&%ing bad A&&. I bet after you actually hold one you will change your mind about "Unbastardizing" it. Its the best feeling furniture around.

I've held them before at fun shows, I like the grip but I hate the buttstock and foregrip ... Hell, I'd like to get a used take off Vepr stock just to cut the grip off of it ... |
| Even if you don't care about the traditional look VEPR's just feel too front heavy, not as well balanced as the milled Arsenals. Won't make a difference shooting from the bench but offhand it won't handle as well. Now I can see a VEPR with the longer barrel and a bipod making a pretty cool quasi-RPK. And it already has the RPK type receiver. |
