would it be possible to get one of these receivers design to accept russian .308 dragunov Tigr magazines so that it can a .308 bbl can be installed for better accuracy?

1.) the bbl ban will be in full force in January so 8mm barrels will be VERY limited.

2.) the only real ammo available in 8mm is either el cheapo or surplus ammo. so for true 1 moa accuracy you'd need better ammo(and yes I'm a firm believer that AK weapons with milled receivers are 1 moa capable. I fully believe it's ammo limiting capabilities. Makes me wonder if anyone's ever tried Gold Medal match ammo out of an Arsenal Inc .223).

Basically looking for the m76 but in a form that'll appeal to precision shooters.

or is it possible to MODIFY the 8mm factory mags to take .308?

Anything is possible for the right amount of money. Your money would be better spent on a ndm-86 in .308 IMHO. I'd hate to see one of those get converted over like that when the 8mm should be capable. Also I don't think the barrel ban will affect the importation of 8mm. If you decide to sell your kit in pursuit of a .308 version gun let me know I may be interested.

uh I don't have a kit.

as for the ndm, I refuse to touch anything chinese. I don't care if the money goes to china or not. I know they're not bad guns, I just feel that the gun should be made by its proper owner.

It'd be quite easy to convert a Tigr into .308 as there are .308 Tigrs on the market in Europe. Coversion would be quite simple.

I have a thing for yugoslavian AKs though.

Also as for importation of 8mm, I know the ban wont. What I'm getting it is there is no MATCH 8mm available ANYWHERE. Show me some and I'll eat my words.

8mm I believe is a relic round now more than anything. It's old and barely in use anymore.

UPDATE: Just found some interesting information, the m76 IS available in .308 in yugoslavia/Bosnia. Have a bbl made here in america then import the bolt and mags and I'd be set =].

Would you like a some ketchup for those words?

It would be easier for you to just buy one of the M90's floating around in .308 win. and be done with it.

Templar always there when you need him.
ETA Go to a search engine and type in 8mm match grade ammo and you will find all you need. Also the Dragunovs I believe are supposed to do  just a little better than the ak variants not 100% sure though.

8mm is popular with the belt feed crowd,  where else can you buy 1000 rounds for less than
$100.00

yeah but what kind of groups will it generate out of the m76. I mean the 8mm is match, but it is as good as federal gold medal match ammo? that's why I had wanted one in .308. I feel that if an m76 were in .308 it'd generate 1 moa groups with a good matchgrade bbl.

While I did not find it on the site now, Ken at RSA had a 20" VEPR project, Black Hills ammo, his fcg, Mojo sight, 2 3/4" at 200 was fun. Email him for the old pdf article on the VEPR hi-power project.

I'm thinking of seeing if Todd will make the m-76 receiver to accomodate the yugo .308 mags, or galil mags, so that one can build a .308 m-76. I feel that .308 would be better anyhow, I don't think I'd get the same accuracy out of a standard .308 yugo that I would this. the m-76 was designed as a precision rifle and I've always been a firm believer that these ak "sniper" rifles ARE capable of 1 moa if using quality ammo and there's much more quality(and cheaper) ammo in .308 than 8mm.

basically my idea was...

1.) yugo m-76 receiver clone set to accept galil .308 mags
2.) custom US-made .308 match bbl for the m-76 receiver
3.) m-76 8mm parts kit to help build the m-76 .308 clone
4.) Red Star Arms adjustable trigger
5.) yugo .308 bolt carrier from an m90(as the 8mm one obviously wont work, duh)

I know it sounds like a waste of money to some people, but I'd love to have this.

I think you would be better off with something like M14 mags anyway..

Yeah, there are two types of .308 SVD mags out there (Russian Tigr and Chicom SVD), but good luck getting any for a decent price (if you can find them).

Also, if you are using an American barrel and receiver, I dont think it still qualifies as a Yugo made gun...

It's not cause I want it because it's made in Yugoslavia, I could care less about that. I just like the rifle design and feel it can benefit from .308 rounds. I think the yugo AKs are the slickest looking AKs and the most well-BUILT Aks on the market, aside from the fact they don't have chrome-bbls. Quality in the AK world is second to none.

1 moa accuracy
semi-auto with ak reliability
.308 and low recoil

what's not to like?

just found out. Zastava makes the m-76 in .308 and it's available with identical mags. I think this would be an excellent endeavor for ORF to make a .308 m-76. Although I firmly feel they need to lower their prices on the rifles. 2,100 is a bit much. I remember when they first came out they were 1,700 from ORF. I don't see how the price hike is justified given the cost of the receiver and parts kits. There's a lot of people out there trying to sell the kits for 1,000 which is ridiculous because when they first were imported they were about $700 each. I don't think this bbl ban is going to have an effect on anything because any rifle built here in the United States by ORF or any other company IS 922r compliant if it uses the proper amount of American Parts.
