| What country has the best reputation for AK's? I am looking at getting one but I want to get an idea as to the best ones on the market. I don't want an american made I am looking at eithor a used or maby a kit to build. I have heard Romanian is good but what about yugo and the like? What makes each one better or worse? |
|
Romanian's considered one of the lowest-quality AK's, actually. Bulgarians are probably considered the best. Norincos, Hungarians, Polish, MAADI, etc. are good, too. As far as what makes them better, it's just the fit and finish- the overall quality of manufacture. |
A dark bore means the bore is not chrome lined, shot corrosive ammo and was not properly cleaned afterward. The bore rusted, causing the darkness and maybe some pitting. This is mainly a problem with older Euro bolt guns. The Yugo AK's are the only ones with non-chrome bores and most of the kits imported were used and abused by the Serb Millitia. Romanian kits and guns have the roughest cosmetics and look like WWII rush jobs, but the internals are done right. They are the best dollar value. Yugo kits were the best made of all the new AK's but the ones that were imported are pot-luck good to beat, hence the low price, the few nice ones command a premium. Bulgarian kits and guns look the best but you will pay a premium above the actual cost it takes to machine it nicely IMO. AK snobs will praise you for buying one. Hungarian kits and guns are in between the Romys and Bulgys in quality but cost all most as much as the Bulgarians due to increasing rareity. Polish AK47 underfolder kits and guns are in the same boat as the Hungarians. The Polish Tantal is the best deal for a 5.45 weapon, if you like the looks. |
A matter of taste. Any serious collector will require at least 1 milled to fill out the quiver. Down side is the are a real bitch as a home build, and expensive. |

milled are heavier and more sturdy a milled receiver will cost you about 4 to 5 bills All mine will be stamped except 1 krink i'm going to drop some money on bulgarians are very nice you are going to pay more if you want one now I was lucky enough to get my bulgy kits right before the barrel ban talk started along with my Hungarians now there prices scare me milled are nice and you will be hard pressed find something more sexy than a milled AK |
