EG/Romy sidefolder question > AK Discussions

Are they the same? Both use the fixed stock trunnion, correct?

Educate me.

Only difference I know is the Romanian has the push button and the E.G. has the lever.
Both use the fixed trunnion, yes.

ETA: The sling swivel is bigger on the Romanian also.

They mount slightly differently. The EG uses one trunnion screw and the pistol grip screw to hold the stock in place. Romanian just uses two trunion screws.

No modifications required for either.

To add one more small detail,the two stocks have a slightly different curve,one drops off a little more.I'll post a pic of both for comparison tomorrow if you need one.

I'm going to use an EG folder on my Romy build. Close enough for me. Copes has them on backorder but will be getting more in soon.

The Romy stock (wire) is offset to the left when open and to the right (a little distance away from the receiver) when closed. Makes it possible to wrap the wire (for shooting comfort).

The EG stock (wire) is centeredwhen open and tight to the receiver when closed. It also has a smoother finish and is more complicated to install/remove due to the fact that it uses the PG nut as an attachment point. And if the EG mechanism comes disassembled, it can be a PITA to put together.

Doesn't the EG have a slightly greater downward cant so that the action can be cycled when the stock is folded?

The action can be cycled with the Romanian folded as well. The top of the butt hits right at the mag dimple. As mentioned, right handed shooters will get a little better cheek weld with the Romanian due to the stock being offset to the left.

Well...I just found a true Romy sidefolder for $20 less. I'll just cancel the German I had ordered.

Might as well go all Romanian on this build. Handpicked kit, Romy marked GTAUSA receiver, etc...

Will try and post my pics of East German AK with Folding Stock from here in Iraq. Until then, who has either Romy or EG folders instock online? Would like to order a couple. Does Cope's charge your CC if it's on back order or only when they get them in stock?

I'd like to know the same thing........where are you guys getting your Romanian folders?? I have two EG stocks coming from Copes but I need one "REAL" Romy folder to complete a build. Anyone care to enlighten me please???

Equipment Exchange. That is where I got mine, they pop-up every once in a while. Depending on the price they dont last more than 5 minutes though.

I remember the good ole' days when tapco had as many as you wanted for $29 + shipping
