MAny thanks to all Looking at possibly buying an AK in 7.62 to keep my AR company. I would like to know if anyone heard of "KBI Inc" out of Harrisburg Pa. They manufacture a SA2000M receiver for the AK. Is it any Good? Crap? So So? HELP ME DECIDE.......... |

KBI is a importer and wholesaler of firearms and accessories. They don't mfg. anything but did import one lot of the model SA2000M manufactured by FEG of Hungary in 2000. It can only use a single stack 10rd magazine that fits that model only. It is a AK rifle that has a 16" barrel with a muzzle brake welded on it. KBI only imported one lot of these rifles as for the same price as the SA200M you could get a Romanian SAR-1 AK rifle that used high capacity magazines. A Romanian WASR-10 rifle that used single stack mags was priced $50-$75 less than the SA2000M. So needless to say sales of them were really really slow so no more were improted. |
| If the SA2000 is still in single stack config the process is similar to converting a low cap WASR. The SA2000s were nice rifles and in my opinion worth the premium over teh single stack Romanian rifles. I am not sure I would be willing to pay much more than $300 for a used one though. It is possible to find a postban thumbhole SA85M for around $350. |

I've converted a WASR here in PRNJ.. Just get the parts count and evil features count right, hog open the magwell with a dremel, and replace the bunghole stock. We're limited to 10 round mags though.. Never seen a 15 round AK mag. They're easier to find than the singlestack mags though, that's for sure. All the 5's I've seen have been 10's with longer floorplates as well, so that's an easy mod if you find 5's cheap. |

That's what I love about NJ they make you jump through hoops and make all sorts uneccessary mods to your mags so your resale goes way down or accessories becomes impossible to purchase to import into the state. I give up I'm going nuts !!! I think I'll just stick with a Ruger Mini 30 It's still a sturdy rifle, though not a "Battle Rifle" the action is the same as the M1's and M14's so I am confident it will hold up to any abuse I can give it. Not that I would give it any mind you. |
*shrug* 10 round doublestack magazines are easily found.. The only time modding a mag would come into play would be if you got a 5 round doublestack cheap and wanted to bump it up to 10 rounds. Mags for the Mini are a good deal more expensive last I checked. It'd be a shame to settle for an inferior (IMHO) weapon. |

"IMHO" ? call me stupid ,but what does that stand for? And I knew I would try to get swayed the other way again by the AK folks. All that preachin' and all.NO just kidding I am very grateful for all your advice. I don't want to go through the hassle of cutting a mag in half, driving a screw or bolt through the middle of the mag or making blockers for it or even grinding out the magwell. Thanks Medic-1 |

got a KBI SA2000M pretty nice, 16" barrel, perm AMD brake (makes it sound like artillery, no really), no bayo lug, synthetic thumbhole stock, semi gloss finish, uses ak47 gas system, well made reciever, crisp trigger. 2 10rd mags. i was actually thinking of selling it.... but im not sure if they are legal in NJ |
IMHO= In My Humble Opinion |
|
"IMHO"..........AAHHHHH !!!! Thank you Master for enlightening me. As far as the KBI goes That's another reason why I am going the Ruger ropute I know it's legal in NJ. There are too many cvariation floating around some are legal some aren't. And some dealers know and some don't their legality. I don't need the headaches of a VISIT. I have 2 small kids going to 2 different schools. I have plenty of headaches. With great appreciation, Medic-1 |
