This is deffinately a highly discussed topic on the AR side. From a general concensus of machinists and fabricators, its the actual compression and rebound of the spring that cause wear, so keeping them loaded doesnt mean much. The only damage you could probably do is to overload them and compress the spring beyond its normal load, resetting the "memory" of the metal.
A friend of mine once found a .45 auto mag in his grandfafther's house which was loaded with ammunition dated 1918. We unloaded the mag, put fresh ammo in it and testeed it. The mag worked perfectly in all the pistols we tried it in. As far as I know he's still using the magazine. I think the AK mags will I have will be working long after I'm gone.
So I Could keep my 870 loaded for a year or 30 and it'd still load reliably? Just wondering cause as of now, i have my shotty close to my bed and the shells on the headboard. It would be much easier to just have these shells in the shotgun 24/7 though. Then i don't need to worry in a reflex situation.
