I want to purchase a beater AK47, probably something I can keep in my vehicle and won't miss too much if it gets stolen.  For this reason, I was leaning towards a romanian ak.  I went shopping at my local gun/pawn shops and found that they mostly carry these low-end models, with prices ranging from $395-$430.  Judging from the consensus on their quality, I would guess that this is a bit much to pay for such a rifle.  What would be a more appropriate price, or to what price should I try to haggle down?

I would think that a WASR-10 would fit the bill nicely.  Shop around you can find them for $325 or so...

If  I were you, but  I'm not, I'd just buy a Ruger 10/22 for $150 and a couple of Ram-line mags.

Well, I wasn't going to respond, but it kept eating at me and I feel compelled to reply.  I can understand that you want a beater, that you won't care if it gets banged up but to say the statement that you made above is totally ignorant.  I am not intending to flame or start any arguments, but EVERY responsible gun owner should care about their firearms being stolen.  If these guns that are stolen are used in a crime by a violent felon, that gives more power to the anti-gun community.  Everyone wants to whine and complain about their 2nd amendment rights being stripped, and I agree that that is bullshit, but when you have gun owners that don't do everything in their power to keep their guns secured and out of the wrong hands, how can you turn around and complain about more stringent gun laws???
