Can someone tell me how to remove the gas piston from the carrier? It looks like you drill out the rivet, and also what size drill bit I use? Thank You in advance for your input.

I never had to drill one out.  I have always had good luck driving the pin out with a punch.

As you can see from the sketch I made the hole is drilled and a countersink is cut on both sides in the bolt carrier during mfg. The gas piston is screwed in and then the hole is drilled in it. The retaining pin is inserted and both ends are peen over. Then both sides of the pin is ground smooth with the surface of the bolt carrier.
The pin is 3mm in diameter. Take a black magic marker and a rag. Mark a 1" round spot around the pin and quickly wipe it off with the rag. This will let the ink get inbetween the pin and bolt carrier so you can see the outline of the pin. Center punch the center of the pin and drill 1/3 the depth of the pin with a 7/64" drill bit. Then use a 3/32" punch to knock the pin out.
When installing the new piston screw it in and then drill a 3mm hole through it. Insert the pin and peen both sides till the pin spreads out to fill the countersink on both sides. Then grind it smooth with the surface of the bolt carrier.
