Do rpk handguards swap out with standard ones?

The upper handguard (gas tube) does. The bottom does not. In order for it to work you need to replace the retaining flange.

instead of doing all that work by taking off the gas block and front sight to swap out the reatiner, do what I did when i put a RPK stock on my MAADI RPM, I took off the excess wood on the lower handguard that fits in reatiner with a X-acto knife.......about a 20 minute job.
