I am in the market for a .223 AK. Who makes them and where can I get one? I would prefer an underfolder but any would do. I have never owned an AK and I would like to get one. Thank you, Phessor |

Arsenal Inc. (of Las Vegas) and Vepr are the best. I prefer the Arsenal version for being lighter and closer to the original. Don't listen to the single caliber people. I started with a .308 AK, then got the .223, then got another .223, then the 7.62 and the 5.45. They are all great, but I shoot the .223 the most. ETA: The Arsenal has a 1/7" barrel twist for heavy bullets. It's more milspec than a Bushmaster! |
who said anything about being single caliber? If you are going to get your first AK then you might as well get the originally designed Soviet cartridge. Then change calibers if need be. |
Jimtash9: That SAR-3 uses a Bulgarian barrel correct? I would therefore assume you used a Bulgarian 24 mm front sight base and Russian/Bulgarian 5.45 muzzle brake, correct? Thanks! themao

Never seen a std underfolder in 5.56, but soem side folders are easier to add. If you find a 5.56 Romy, it's prob around $400 and still needs the pos Century fcg swapped out and has usual Romy fit/finish roll of the dice. But they run fine on $15 Weiger mags, are a light stamped rec model which easily accepts several side folder options. The VEPR stock is not at all easy to change but is a darn fine shooter. The Arsenal SAM5S is a milled rec gun that prefers the elusive $25 Bulgy 5.56 waffle mags. Both are about $600 and are very well made. Some like to convert a hunter style Russian Saiga in 5.56, can be pretty cheap if you do it yourself, details in the Russian forum. cdnninvestments.com download catalog listing, about $230 to start If you must have a moving stock, the Romy and Saiga are much easier to change out. |
My brother-in-law has a Norinco underfolder in .223 that I like. I have an AR15 that I would trade for one. Thank you, Phessor AR15 Trade! |
