The older Kalashnikov gets, the more of that Tartar blood comes out.

Kazakstan was the crossroads of the world, lots of genes floating around there.

At least he's now doing something else besides peddling Vodka like he was recently.

I've seen a video of him actually shooting an AK-100 series.  It was probably a couple of years ago, but he seemed in good shape except for a little case of the "shakes" (too much vodka, maybe).  He lives a modest life, but is regarded as a hero in the Federation.

Kalashnikov Vodka....

If Schumer and Feinstein have their way, you'll be able to get it, you just won't be able to buy it in high-capacity containers.

And you'll only be allowed one shot at a time.

Anyone want to guess how much money he would have made from his designs had he not been in the USSR?

Spooky

Eugene Stoner got $1 for every M-16.  He died a multi-millionaire.

The practical field service of the AN-94 doesn't seem too promising without some redesign.  The rear sight is unprotected and the complicated pulley-and-cable system doesn't sound very reliable, even for a Russian design.    The problem with 7.62x39 seems to be accuracy and the problem with 5.45 is knock-down power.  Maybe the next thing will be soemthing like the 6.8 in an AK-100 style design.

I wonder what Mr Kalashnikov's opinion is on the AN-94? He didn't like the switch to 5.45 even though it was using his rifle just rechambered. The AN-94 was supposed to replace the Kalashnikov rifles in the Russian Military.

More like "supplement" than "replace".  I understand that Russia is having a hard time funding the AN-94.  It's going to take decades to replace the AK74, if they ever get around to doing it at all.
