I realize that these are a hot item.

Is $640 reasonable?  I can get one with either polymer furniture or wood.

EDIT - forgot to add that the $640 only includes one mag - no sling, etc.

That seems a little high to me.

You get a discount for being a AR15.com member BTW.

I think wholesale should cost you about 475

That maybe fair for a retail price but I havent bought anything retail for some time now. And those were my 10/22 from Walmart and a Remington Viper from the local gunstore when they were still making them. That isnt that bad of a price though since the supply is low prices have been alot higher also Im assuming that its new.

Guys:

If you want to buy a firearm at less than retail price my recommendation is this: go website wwww.gunsamerica.com and look for the link to the list of federal firearms dealers. Hopefully there will be one in your area who charges a reasonable fee for transferring firearms. In my case I found a guy who lives about 10 miles from me and who charges $12.50 to handle the transfer of a long gun. I recently bought a Vector underfolder so my cost breakdown was this (approximately)

$500.00 for rifle

$  18.00 shipping

$  13.00  transfer fee

Total: $531.00

Note that I did not have to pay sales tax since I am the out of state buyer of this product just like I don't pay sales tax when I buy books, DVDs, electronics, clothing.... by the internet.

Good luck. I hope you get your AK.

Yeah I get charged $20 per transfer but about 1/3 of the times he tells me not to worry about it. I used to bitch about the $20 but the sales tax savings more than pays for it.

I take it you ordered the rifle from Vector???

If you did, you fucked your local dealer out of the $$ you paid Vector, because at 500 you did pay more than dealer cost.

I see this all the time, if you had went to a dealer who knew his shit, he would have made an extra few dollars, and you still would have payed less than this for the gun.

Just remember, if you dont support the guy with other purchases, or at least a tip, he's probably going to be reluctant to sell to you more than a few times.

The cheapest route as it appears, usually isnt, try dealing with an honest FFL that makes enough on transfer to merit the time it takes to find you a better deal, and save you money.

Good points, however:

(1) None of the gun stores in my area stock underfolder AKs, or most any other type of AK as far as I can tell.

(2) The gun dealer that I used is what some folks call a "kitchen table" dealer. He doesn't have a store. He specializes in handling transfers only. He is not about to shell out money out of his own pocket to keep a stock of firearms that someone might buy. I use my credit card to pay for the firearm.  By paying for the firearm myself I have avoided paying about $45 in sales tax which might be the profit margin for an actual retail store.

(3) There are times when I patronize a gun store. I recently purchased a Ruger 10/22 and a Walther P22.  These are firearms that many gun stores carry, and I did some shopping around to get a good price or to get the product that I want.  It is not worth buying these firearms from out of state, paying for shipping, and paying the transfer fee. However, when it comes to a bigger ticket item I don't mind using a "kitchen table" dealer. The guy who is faced with paying $600+ for an AK should consider going this route.

I bought one 3 weeks ago on the EE for $550 shipped.  Patience is a virtue, and timing is key.

600 would be fair id think for a ftf buy
they are getting harder to get and who knows if it will ever get easy again
yes the rifle was under 500 new but people are gonna charge what they can get
and they will get that
may have to hold onto it for a month or so but sooner or later some1 will pay that for it

I bought one (underfolder with black poly furniture) from my local dealer for $478. Had to wait from Sept 04 to January 05 though.

Vector seems really strange in how they do business. They charged my dealers credit card (they won't take business checks) and he thought his batch of rifles was on the way. A week later, no rifles. He inquires, they refund his money. A month later same thing happens again. Still no rifles. Finally they tell him one is on the way. A week later, still no rifle. Two weeks later I finally get the call that it was in.

With the rifles in such demand I'll bet they could get over $600 for em easy.

Damn.

I was on Atlantic's list for a Vector...decided to pass it up.

Hopefully somebody on this board got my place in line.

Yes the AR15.COM price from us is $479 per rifle, we are Vector Arms Distributors and do not expect Vector to have these back in production until April ,they are out of underfolding stocks and have had a supply issue with the receivers from Ohio Ordnance. Thank You Atlantic Firearms.llc

When I was pondering my Vector purchase, I used the Atlantic site's FFL finder to find a dealer without a real high mark-up.  If  the mark-up was too high, I wouldn't be able to scrape enough together to guy it, plain and simple.

I found a guy who said he charged $20 on any transfer.  I can handle that.  So I contacted him, set it up, then ordered the rifle.  When it came in though, he was wanting to charge me a percentage of the cost!

I understand these guys trying to run a business and stay afloat, but be upfront about what you charge.  I lucked out and he kept to his word, but had he not, it would have been a mess.  I never could have come up with the extra cash.

Atlantic Firearms. Llc

Is their anyway I can reserve a Vector Arms underfolder rifle? I am willing to put down a down payment and or pay in full. If you do not take paid reservations can you put me on a waiting list?
Thank you,
Sincerely

Think very hard before you get an underfolder.

My 7.62 Krinkov is an underfolder and it rattles the heck out of your teeth when you shoulder and cheek weld to the stock.

Sure, they look cool as hell when underfolded, but when it comes time to shoot it's a different story.

Let us know how it turns out.

I have a Vector underfolder. It doesn't rattle at all. I got on the waiting list with Vector about 2 months ago, and just got it last Wednesday. All you have to do is call around to all the local gun shops, find out who will transfer for the least amount ( I pay $10.00 in Asheville NC), and have that dealer send a copy of his FFL to who ever you order from.
