Ok, here is just a couple of things that I saw, but ones that I considered very exciting.  Let me know if there is anything you really want me to look for.

Arsrmory USA (Global Trades) is now making 1mm AK receivers in addition to the 1.6mm.  They had the chick tracks and everything looked good.  Underfolder holes are $10 extra.  MSRP are $59.99 and $69.99 respectively.  Underfolder version is supposed to be available in April.  They will also mark and register a pistol receiver for $10 more (same price as underfolder) and they will do custom serial numbers for $35.  Looks very good to me.  These are listed on their website now.

An Israeli company (Silver Shadow) www.silver-shadow.com, is selling a Galil folding stock with an adaptor for the stamped receiver that does not require grinding off the tang.  $165.  They had one example that looked very nice.  I'm going to try and snag it if I can.

Nice AK's from Arsenal of Nevada and Global Trades.

Several varieties of railed forends and AR15 buttstock adaptors.  Seem to be mainly Israeli mfg.

Great to hear. Just hope they can hire someone for quality control. They have been turning out some real crap hear lately.

We have all waited for a nice 1mm receiver for a long time. Dont let us down Global!

Well, expect to be let down.  The mag dimples still look wrong, and they only have the dies to cut the receiver for double hook triggers.

The mag dimple is an issue, I agree.  The other area cut out for the double hook could easily be filled with silver solder and then filed smooth. Thats my plan anyway...

The OOW receiver's dimples look more authentic than the new 1mm Global receiver dimples.

I'm happy with my OOW. The selector gap is not a major problem with me either, I'm used to it!!

Well, those new Global 1.0mm receivers look good except for the dimples. I'll wait for others to give a review on them being that Global seems to be having some issues with quality control. I just wish OOW could do a little enhancing on their receivers.

Didn't Global have the SSR-74 at the Shot Show like two years ago?  Then they said it would be out about 2 to 3 months later.  That thing has still yet to make it to market in any numbers.  I'd be very cautious when it comes to purchasing a rx from Global.  Many QC issues have cropped up from some of their latest offerings.  It doesn't matter anyway, if they said the 1 mm rxs would be availible in April then that means April of '07.

Dorsai,

So pretty much it is a complete Galil Folding stock assembly mounted to this adapter block?  How is it mounted, did they pin it to the adaptor block similar to how the stock is attached to a Galil receiver?

Ugh,
The block slides into the receiver just like the socket/end of a standard buttstock.  The trunnion tang sits on top of the block.  It is retained with a single screw through the forward trunnion hole.

The stock is attached to the adapter with a standard Galil hinge pin.  The stock itself is straight Galil and if you had one, you'd only need to buy the adapter.

Dorsai do you know if there a US Distributor for the Silver Shadow folder?  That looks great.  I would definitely go with one, but I really don't feel like ordering one from Israel and waiting for the thing to be shipped over here.

If there isn't then I guess I might be willing to wait...

I am unaware of a US distributor.  They didn't say there was one.  Minimum purchase order on this is 5 units of any one item.  Saw that again when I looked at their paperwork.  As a result of these postings, a major distributor of stuff we like contacted me to get more info.  I wouldn't be surprised if he starts offering them.  I don't feel at liberty to give his name, so don't ask.  I'll let him decide.

However, this might be a good thing for a couple of guys to get together on for a mini-group buy.

I realize that I'm the only one who actually got to handle one of these units.  However, there are other board members here in Las Vegas, such as Wolfpack, and I'd be happy to let them look at it, post pics, etc.  Someone else's camera has got to be better than mine!

I don't have a financial interest in this and I just wanted to pass on the info.  It is exactly what I was looking for and was previously unable to find.

The adapter block should fit any stamped AK with European dimensions.  I don't know if it will fit a Norinco, but if someone local wants to see if it fits, I'll be happy to let him try it.  I have thought of one modification I may make.  The tang has a hole for the wood buttstock, but there is no corresoponding threaded hole in the adapter.  Just the one under the recoil spring guide.  I may drill and tap the adapter and add a second screw.  I don't know that its necessary, but it would add to the strength.

On that topic, this thing is strong.  The adaptor is forged/cast steel, not sheet metal.  It is hollow underneath so it isn't too heavy.  It fits snugly into the receiver and the screw is really just to keep it from sliding out.  I've attached a single point sling to the left side loop and let it hang and the weight of the rifle would not pull it free.  Because of the tight contact around all four sides, any up/down, left/right stresses will be transmitted to the receiver, not the screw.

Anyway, I like it.  I've decided I'll build up one "modernized" AK with it.  Right now, that's my SAR-1.  I may eventually restore the SAR to a standard fixed AKM appearance and put it on another rifle, but that's the beauty of not having to modify the tang.  I'm planning on getting an AK-74 with a historically correct sidefolder, so I don't want it on that and I've got a Polish underfolder kit yet to build.   So this fills a good niche.

Did you guys see the 16" Krink that Arsenal is coming out with?

Very cool. I can't wait to get one and SBR it.

That stock set up is obiously bogus, I suggest you cut your losses and sell it to me immeadiatly so I can inspect it.
I case your not biting, anyone counting to five right now can go to four. I'm good for one A.S.A.P.

Dorsai, thanks for sharing the info, any AK owner that's ever had a Galil folder is going to want one of these. Damn, almost feels like christmas morning.

Dorsai, could you post any closer pics of the folder (open position), left side of receiver?
Also, I couldn't get anywhere w/ the Silver Shadow link.  It had overviews of the general stuff they do, mostly security related, but I couldn't find a page listing things they sell or an order area.
any suggestions or other links?

6500rpm.
I emailed you some higher resolution pics.  With regards to silver-shadow, I know about their website.  Products aren't listed.  You'll just have to call or email them.  email is [email protected].

I included the part numbers and prices on another thread, but here they are again.

00 390 4002 Galil Stock for AKM-47-74       $110.00
00 390 4003 Adaptor for AKM-47-74           $  55.00

Minimum order is 5 units for each product.  Price is US $ F.O.B. Israel.

A major distributor many members have dealt with emailed me this morning to get more info so he maybe fronting the effort to get a sizeable number into the US.  Out of courtesy, I won't reveal who it is.  But they may be more readily available in a few months if he comes through.  I would expect a higher price.

As an aside, I've seen the Galil buttstocks advertised for sale by other people for $89, so someone might just buy the adaptor and then assemble it to their own buttstock.  I'm not sure how to do it, but hey, other people know more than me.
