I am just looking into the possiblity of getting my first AK (Norinco MAK-90 7.62X39 AK-47 sporter).  I am confused and need some direction.   From what I have seen online these all came with the thumbhole stock and the person who has this says it is NIB and has a pistol grip and NOT  the thumbhole.  Does this sound right?  I am just being to suspicious (worried about the legality of this)?
  Thanks in advance.

I suppose there could be some MAK 90's that have a chinese pistol grip.  How much does the seller want for the rifle?  If it's a good deal, even if the rifle is not 922r compliant, all you gotta do is swap a few parts to get it there.

I am looking at trading it for a Whites MXT metal detector.  Thanks for the reply!

No worries.
Keep in mind, 922R ONLY prohibits the manufacter or importation of a weapon in AW configuration after 1989.  Unlike the now dead 94 ban, It does NOT prohibit possession.  It doesn't even declare the actual weapon illegal.  In other words, as long as someone else did the conversion, it is not illegal to have an post-89 imported AW.
