The muzzle nut thread got me thinking...
How come I've never before seen an AK74 with a muzzle nut? I've seen a couple of chicom imports with muzzle nuts, but never any other AKM or AK74 for that matter.

That said, I've been considering getting a muzzlenut and installing that for a little while to try it out (possibly re-soldering on the 74 brake that my kit came with).
Reason being, I've allways disliked not having real access to the muzzle of the rifle (inspection, cleaning, etc.).

Anyone ever try one on their 74?

The akm comes with the slant comp and the 74 comes with a brake.

MY sar-2 has no break.  I would rather have a brake like my 2 other 74s.

Anyways, considering one of these... atleast temporarily.

I'm going to get the US one, paint it black and be happy. I'll slap it on my SAR-1 for the hell of it when it does have a slant break. I like different looks from time to time.

The AK-47 muzzle nut was there to protect the threads.  The AKM had the slant cut device to offset the muzzle climb during the full-auto fire the AKs was designed for.  The new ammo for the AK-74 had some hellacious muzzle blast, both in the form of fireballs and sound.  The fix was the muzzle device you see on all AK-74s.   Seems like it fixed one problem, while making the other worse, but I can't recall which.
