Up-date: First off, Glad they're taking care of you Travis. I kind of thought they would. It just sucks you didn't get a good one. Just started cleaning, Bore is spotless! Took a round and did the muzzle trick, round sticks out of the muzzle a good 1/4" or more before the case. Fits snug in the breech also. The crown looks different than my other AK's, It's radiused into the bore. Missing the cleaning rod. Have two FCG's, one's the full auto, the other is in a plastic bag and is a double hook marked FSE USA? Do these things not use the shepard's hook and use something similar but with spring coil in the middle? Now that I've go some of the grime off the wood the upper HG is pitted. Sorry I'm babbling like a little girly-man. I'm kind of excited at the prospect of not getting hosed for a change. Naturally the batteries need charging in the 290. Thanks Jeep and Travis on the offer to post the pics. As soon as the camera is charged I'll send you guys some j-pegs. Thanks for the vote of confidence Campy. Damn, maybe this will work out! Brown just dropped off my underfolder from Sportsmans Guide. This is my first rifle in a bag, so I really don't know what to expect. Here are my first impressions: It is a matching # except for the top cover. even the gas piston housing under the upper handguard is stamped with the serial #. All the parts are there, in fact I may have extras. The wood is dinged but no major chunks or splinters. The underfoder assembly has some surface rust on one side, but it is tight and snaps into place. The bore is dirty but there doesn't appear to be any rust or pits and the lands are well defined. The muzzle crown is clean and not dinged. It looks like they might have given me an extra FCG. The hammer that is free has no indentation mark on it. The trigger guard is the only piece that appears to have been butchered by over-zealous grinding. After I get a chance to put the parts in a tub and really clean them up, (looks like they poured a cup of dirt in bag with it) I will give a more detailed report. I can take pics with my digital but have to find a sight to host them or someone else can post them if they want. It does not look anything like the kit Travis received. My impression is that they threw a bunch of dirt in with it along with extra parts. So bottom line is it's a crap shoot if you order one of these from SG. Maybe I got lucky for once. More later. |

Glad to hear you got a good one I also could host the pics for you. [email protected] |
Sent some pics to Jeep and Travis. Hope they come up since I'm on the Mac, both PC's are off line. It took half a can of brake clean and a couple shots of CLP. A squirt of brake clean down the bore took all the dirt out. Ran a patch of #9 down the bore and it sparkles. Shot some super clean on the lower hand guard and PG and it took everything off! It looks like a light sanding and some stain and they're good to go. I think I got lucky as it appears it's a hit or miss deal with SG on these. Now I have to decide whether to go stamped receiver or big bucks for a Firing Line milled/threaded reciever. Either way I will probably refinish it.
