I have a polish underfolder kit to build and I am looking for a receiver.

Did OOW fix the problem with the selector lever hole drilled to low on the receiver?

If not, is there a certain selector lever on the market that fills the gap on the top when it's set in safe mode?

Thanks!

i would not be too concerned about the selector hole location. altering (fitting) the selector lever's travel limit stops is easily done and often required when using the american made fire control parts regardless of the receiver used.

I just finished my first screw together AMD-63 build on an OOW receiver.  Although there is a gap, it is really not that bad.  I was debating whether to use this receiver based on this but I though what the hey it wasn't that bad.

One thing that I'm not sure of is the type of top cover used on the Polish kit.  If the top cover overlaps the selector switch like on a Bulgarian or Romanian stamped AK, I don't think it will be a problem because you wont be able to see the gap.  If it is a Hungarian, these do not overlap but are flush and seal nicely.  I will post a picture showing my screw together AMD-63 on a OOW, a pre-ban Hungarian SA-85M folder and a Bulgarian AK-74 built on an OOW receiver for comparison.

As promised here's the comparison pic.  Top is my AMD-63 screw build on an OOW 7.62 receiver, note the slight gap above the safety lever.  This is the gap that everyone talks about, it's not bad enough to not use the OOW receiver.

Middle is my preban FEG Hungarian SA-85M folder, note the tight fit of the safety lever to the cover.

Bottom is my Bulgarian AK-74 built on an OOW 5.45 receiver, note the cover and safety lever overlap.  My guess is if the gap is too offensive on the OOW 7.62 receiver a person could try to use a Bulgarian cover and safety lever which may close the gap and make it less noticeable.  Not sure if it will work to narrow the gap or not.  Just my .02 cents worth.

Thanks for the pics!

I thought the selector hole location problem that causes the gap was only present in the OOW 7.62 receivers and that their 5.45 receivers didn't have the same problem.

Mike,
That is correct.  The 7.62 has the gap and the 5.45 does not.  There is no gap on the bottom picture.

What he is saying is the 5.45 reciver from OOW does not have a gap problem, no matter what parts kit..

The 7.62 OOW reciver does have a gap, no matter what kit you use...

Great pictures, blfuller.  The gap is mainly just a cosmetic thing.  And not that bad at all.   I don't see any problem with it as long as it doesn't affect its operation.  To someone who doesn't know about it, I dought it would be even noticed.
